The Civilian Guard Brigade was the name given to civilian enlistees of Operation: Enduring Victory.

History[]

With the discovery of the Faro Plague and the impossibility of stopping it, Operation: Enduring Victory was hatched by General Aaron Herres to delay the advance of the swarm and buy time for Project Zero Dawn to be completed, which would include civilians among those fighting.[1]

Purpose[]

Made up mainly of civilians with none to little prior combat experience and broken up into at least nine Civilian Guard Brigades,[2] they made up the bulk of the fighting force of Operation: Enduring Victory, while the combat-experienced pre-automation veterans were organized into the more mobile Mechanized Response Brigades (MRBs). Most were unaware of the true nature of Project Zero Dawn, believing it to be a superweapon that would help defeat the Faro Plague if they could hold it off long enough to be completed. Due to the extremely short time frame of the project, the Civilian Guard Brigades were woefully undertrained and underequipped; their training under the MRBs consisted of little more than weapon orientation.[3] The scope and nature of the fatalities suffered by the Civilian Guard were horrific and highly demoralizing to the units involved.[4]

Results[]

The Civilian Guard Brigades, and the entirety of Operation: Enduring Victory, was ultimately successful in its goal of holding off the Faro Plague for enough time for Project Zero Dawn to reach functional completion, with only 34 hours to spare.[5] Unfortunately, this was not enough time for all the workers of Zero Dawn to reach Elysium in time before being overrun by the swarm.[6]
