Making an Original Video Post
Click the video icon to open a new video post:
You’ll see this post editor pop up:
The “Post now” button won’t show as activated until either a video has been uploaded or linked in the post form.
You can click “Upload a video” to select a video file from your computer to upload. Keep in mind:
- It’ll need to be a MOV or MP4 file.
- You can post up to 20 videos per day.
- A single video can be up to 10 minutes in length.
- The video upload size limit is 500 MB per video.
- The total video time limit per day is 60 minutes.
Click the option on the right to paste a video URL. Links from the following sources will work best:
- YouTube
- Vimeo
- Dailymotion
After pasting your video URL, click “Insert” to add it to the post.
It’s also possible to post the video URL into the editor without selecting the video block. This will automatically embed your video in the post.
Adding Video to a Reblog
Paste a URL or a video embed code in the resulting content area. It’s not possible to upload a video file to a reblog.

Troubleshooting
My video is pixelated and/or has other artifacts!
Tumblr will transcode and re-compress all uploaded videos, so some light pixelation and other artifacts may occur. If you encounter that, try exporting the video as close to our transcoder’s goal as possible, which is a 720p H.264 MP4. If your video software can’t export that, or you’re working with a finished video, get Handbrake and use the General -> HQ 720p30 preset with no modifications.
If the source video is smaller than 720p, or already pixelated, nothing can really be done to improve it without running it through some sort of upscaling software, which might introduce more artifacts.
I can’t upload any more videos!
You can only upload 20 videos a day, and only 1 video at a time.
If you have not yet uploaded 20 videos, you’ll need to wait for the last video to finish transcoding and publish. If it’s been over an hour, please contact us!
