Harry Potter: "Wand Weighing?"

The Wand Weighing ceremony, also known as the Weighing of the Wands[3], was a traditional part of the Triwizard Tournament, designed to ensure that all champions' wands were in perfect functioning condition for the three perilous Tasks ahead.[1]

During the 1994 tournament staged at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Wand Weighing was held on 13 November in a fairly small classroom in Hogwarts Castle and was officiated by British Wandmaker, Garrick Ollivander.

Before the ceremony started, Harry Potter met Rita Skeeter for the first time and she interviewed him inside a broom cupboard near the classroom where the ceremony was held.[1]

During the ceremony, Garrick Ollivander examined all four wands of the champions, identifying their woods, cores, lengths, characteristics and manufacturers, and then testing them with spells to ensure they worked functionally.[1]

The spells consisted of, Harry Potter's wand was tested with the Fountain of wine spell, Viktor Krum's wand was tested with the Bird-Conjuring Charm, Cedric Diggory's wand was tested with the Silver smoke spell, and last was Fleur Delacour's wand was tested with the Bouquet Spell.[1]

  3. The chapter 18 of book four is entitled "The Weighing of the Wand". What's more, in the same chapter, Dumbledore tells Rita Skeeter "[...] The Weighing of the Wands is about to start, and it cannot take place if one of our champions is hidden in a broom cupboard."
