A ruby is a red gemstone, often associated with royalty.
History[]
The charlatan in Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump requested several rubies as pay, claiming they were for the casting of curative charms.[1]
The Sword of Gryffindor was known to be adorned with egg shaped rubies.[2][3]
Rubies filled the Gryffindor House points hourglass at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.[4][5]
During the 1986–1987 school year, Albus Dumbledore may have given Jacob's sibling a ruby from the Gryffindor House points hourglass as thanks for recovering the missing hourglasses.[6]
On 31 July 1991, when Harry Potter visited Gringotts Wizarding Bank for the first time in Diagon Alley, he observed a goblin weighing a pile of rubies as big as glowing coals.[7] During the same visit, another goblin, or perhaps the same one, refused to serve him, as he was busy counting several thousand rubies.[8]
In June 1997, during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, the Gryffindor House points hourglass was shattered and rubies fell onto the floor below.[5]
Behind the scenes[]
- Whether or not Dumbledore gives Jacob's sibling a ruby, emerald, sapphire, or diamond is dependant on the House that the player character chose.
