Our summer concert From the sublime to the ridiculous will comprise a riot of joyous English songs and pieces, old and new, with piano and string bass. Unaccompanied madrigals, and nonsense rhymes by a number of our best loved composers, including Elgar, John Rutter, George Shearing and Richard Rodney Bennett will keep our audience smiling throughout.

Handel’s Messiah

Friday 6th December 2025 at 7pm, Symphony Hall

For many, our annual Messiah performance in early December marks the beginning of the festive season, and is eagerly anticipated. Musically, their performance is consistently very highly rated, and can promise an evening of moving arias and superb choral singing, elegantly accompanied by the CBSO.

Tickets online HERE and at B:Music box offices.

We perform wonderful choral concerts in Symphony Hall, Town Hall and other venues in Birmingham, with trips ‘out of town’ to Lichfield, Tewkesbury and elsewhere.

In the pandemic, we rehearsed movements from Haydn’s Missa in Angustiis, also known as the Nelson Mass. Unable to meet in person, we used online video to rehearse and record this fine choral work.  We were joined by orchestral players and soloists for our final recordings.

Our history…

The City of Birmingham Choir was founded in March 1921.  Since then it has been a stalwart of Birmingham’s  musical life performing a wide range of classical and modern music in Town Hall and Symphony Hall, often with the CBSO. Previous conductors have included Sir David Willcocks and
Christopher Robinson CBE. For the last twenty years the Choir has been skilfully led by the charismatic Adrian Lucas. Read MORE about our history.
