Welcome to MiroTalk, your home for open-source, privacy-focused WebRTC solutions for real-time communication.
MiroTalk empowers developers, startups, and enterprises to build secure video calls, meetings, and collaboration tools with no vendor lock-in.
📖 The Story Behind MiroTalk
MiroTalk was born during the global pandemic, when video communication suddenly became part of everyday life. Like many people, I found myself relying on online meeting platforms to stay connected with friends, family, and collaborators.
But something didn't feel right.
Most of the available solutions were controlled by large companies, closed ecosystems where users had little control over their own data. Privacy often felt like an afterthought, and vendor lock-in made it difficult for individuals and organizations to truly own their communication infrastructure.
That's when the idea for MiroTalk started to take shape.
I wanted to create an alternative: a simple and powerful WebRTC platform that anyone could run on their own server. A tool that would be free, open, and privacy-first, without forcing users into proprietary ecosystems or hidden data collection.
The goal was simple:
- No vendor lock-in
- Full control over your own data
- Privacy by design
- Open source and accessible to everyone
And the name?
Friends and colleagues have always called me "Miro." Since the project was about enabling people to communicate freely, the name came naturally: Miro + Talk = MiroTalk, a simple way to represent open communication built with a personal touch.
What started as a small experiment during lockdown quickly grew into a project used by people around the world. Developers, educators, teams, and communities who believe communication tools should empower users, not control them.
MiroTalk is more than a video meeting platform. It's a small step toward a more open and decentralized web.
