Story[]
On his first night at the apartment, Niles hosts a dinner party for his neighbors in the hopes to make a good first impression. However, disaster strikes when Niles’ new pet bird, Baby, becomes traumatized by sudden noises, such as the doorbell ringing, and Frasier lighting a fire causing Baby to dig her claws in Niles’ scalp. When the guests arrive, Baby becomes even more frightened and grips Niles’ scalp even tighter. Niles hides out in the kitchen for most of the party, forcing Frasier to play the role of host. After some time, Niles finally emerges and explains to the guests what happened, and they all brush off the incident. However, the party comes to a premature end when Baby makes several rude remarks about some of the guests.
Apart from a four-month period during the divorce proceedings with Maris, Niles lives here for the rest of the series. Upon his return to the apartment, it is revealed that the sub-tenant who was living there while Niles was away is an avid tap dancer and the noise has infuriated the other residents of the building, causing the board to contemplate terminating Niles’s lease. Niles and Frasier eventually decide to plan a party in an attempt for Niles to get the board back on his side but things go south when Niles’s pet cockatoo, Baby, suddenly drops dead (after having eaten one of Daphne’s earrings) and during a game of “murder” (in which one guest pretends to murder another) one of the guests, Mr. Probst who is also a member of the board, actually dies as a result of a heart condition. Despite this, the board votes in favor of Niles and he retains his lease.
Niles lives alone at the apartment until he begins dating Daphne in the eighth season and their relationship becomes more serious. After dating for about a year, Daphne and Niles decide to live together and get engaged shortly afterwards. They get married a few months later and in the final episode of the series, Daphne gives birth to her and Niles’s son, David, and it is presumed they take him home here after the series.
Trivia[]
