“When my son was diagnosed with mild Cerebral Palsy I struggled with understanding “why.” Since I’ve been at FPU, I have realized how blessed I am. I wanted to learn about child development, and now my son is doing great, and I’m also able to work with and understand other children who struggle and their parents.” – Andrea Barrera
At FPU, we’re all about the life change that happens within our students. We are so proud of you Andrea!

Beth Paz (B.A. in English: Secondary Teaching, 2005) shared a message of hope with thousands of college students as plenary speaker at Urbana’s December 2018 conference.
Urbana is sponsored by Intervarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), a parachurch ministry that calls college-age students to whole-life discipleship in Christ. Conferences occur every three years and attract 16,000 people from across campuses, ZIP codes and the world to five days of worship, group Bible studies and seminars. Plenary speakers provide a main sermon and call to faith.
Current Golden State Warriors assistant coach, Ron Adams, was on campus last Tuesday to talk basketball, life and the NBA with our Sunbird athletes.
Coach Adams, assistant coach of the Golden State Warriors professional basketball team, has distinguished himself as one of the best defensive basketball coaches in the country. In 1965, Ron arrived as a freshman at Fresno Pacific from the valley town of Laton. He graduated in 1969 with a major in political science and history. At Pacific, he played basketball under coach Gary Nachtigall. Both Ron and Leah, who graduated in 1976 with an English major, were selected by the faculty in their respective senior years for the Outstanding Senior Graduate Award.
Their lives since Pacific, where Ron also began his coaching career, have taken them to many places as they have journeyed through the North American basketball scene.
Later in the day, Coach Adams and his wife Leah joined The Council of Senior Professionals seminar for a Q&A discussion about their story titled “A Farm Kid’s Journey into the World of Professional Sports.”
It was so great to hear Coach Adams’ story and listen to his great words of advice including what he thought was the secret to his success: “You try to treat people with kindness and help them along the way.”
Congratulations to Elaine Yanez, our alumni who won Teacher of the Year at Malaga Elementary! Our alumni are some of the best educators in the Central Valley and we love to see the difference they’re making in the community.
FPU students, Liz Serrato and Mackenzie Bradberry wanted to make a difference in the lives of their students, so they started an after-school dance class. Their dance class ended up getting Ellen DeGeneres’ attention!
See how Preston Little learned about the importance of relationships at Fresno Pacific and how that knowledge helps in his pressure-filled profession. #featuremeFPU
