There will be ‘very little rain’ throughout Christmas week as a weather expert forecasts a ‘cooler end of the year’ for 2024.
The weekend was blustery with a church spire catching fire on Sunday after it was struck by lightning.
The village of Ruan in Clare was left without electricity in parts as a result of the weather.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather predicts that the weather will turn ‘milder and calmer’ from Monday with ‘unusually mild air’ on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
He added that it will also be calmer with ‘very little rain.’
‘Cloud with patchy drizzle is as bad as it gets for Christmas,’ he said, ‘Slowly turning little cooler for end of year.’

Similarly, Met Éireann say it will be cloudy with just the odd outbreak of rain.
Rainfall may be heavier on Monday with some mist and hill/coastal fog before it turns milder throughout the day.
On Monday night, the forecaster says it will be mostly cloudy and misty with further patches of light rain and drizzle — along with the hill and coastal fog continuing into the night.
Tuesday will be cloudy and largely dry with just some patchy light rain and drizzle ‘here and there.’
There will be ‘favourable’ conditions as Santa makes his visit to Ireland with few clear spells and just a few bursts of drizzle and mist.
Christmas Day/ Wednesday will continue with another dry and mild day with Met Éireann saying there will be a good deal of cloud overall but also some bright and sunny spells as well.
They said: ‘Another unseasonably mild day, with highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in most moderate south to southwest winds, fresher for a time in coastal parts of the west and northwest.’
It will be largely dry on Christmas night with just a few spots of light rain, mostly in the west and northwest.
St Stephen’s day is looking to be cloudy with patchy rain, drizzle and mist. There is also a possibility of bright and sunny spells too.
Met Éireann are currently predicting that the high pressure will continue to dominate from next week and bring generally settled conditions.
