An interesting week or so . . . in the Midwest, tornado warnings & all. An international calligraphy conference is the best of places. 250 calligraphers together for a week of amazing workshops, especially when you land at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA, and spend 5 days carving stone with Paul Herrera, student of Ft. Catich. ¶ So I spent 5 days on 5 letters – never did get them working well, but still . . .
Which is also to say, I have been noticing of late that some of my scruples are actually becoming foible-like.
Love you and Catich!

Wish I could have been. I knew of Catich’s work way back when I was in college (1959-1963). There was a Catholic bookstore on Marquette University campus (Milwaukee Wis) Cardijn Center https://digicoll.library.wisc.edu/cgi/f/findaid/findaid-idx?c=wiarchives;cc=wiarchives;view=text;rgn=main;didno=uw-whs-mil000br
The Young Christian Worker movement (Dorothy Day) worked out of there. Tom and I both studied theology. So we were enamored of the Catholic art of that period. First discovered Rudolph Koch’s Book of Signs, and my engagement ring and our wedding rings used some of them. They were designed by a Catholic liturgical artist, Karl Giehl, who worked in metal and was greatly influenced by the German liturgical art of that period.

Love to you! Thanks so much for the book. I’m so pleased to have it. I’ve delayed in thanking you because I was sure I’d get a card out to you. No such luck, I’m afraid. 😢
Sending hugs and love,

It must be intimidating to be around so much talent at once. Or does it feel like “you’re with family”? 😉

Not too intimidating, my long years with calligraphy help me feel like I belong.

How lovely for you to attend such a conference. The good Father looked a bit pasty. Glad the weather didn’t interfere in you time.
Be well
