Our Mission

“The mission of the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe (SIT) Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) Department is to protect, preserve and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Snoqualmie Reservation and traditional tribal lands for the benefit of current and future generations.”

ENR fulfills this mission through habitat restoration and water quality improvement projects, waste reduction and recycling, education through stewardship, and by monitoring the impacts of regional policies and projects.

Programs

The ENR department has built and expanded the environmental programs to include a Resource Protection and Restoration Program, an Outreach program, a Water Quality Program, an Information Management/GIS Program, an Environmental Compliance Program, and a Solid Waste and Recycling Program.

Water Quality

We take an active role in our watersheds to ensure clean water and healthy outdoor recreation: for our environment and for future generations

Habitat Restoration & Monitoring

The Habitat Restoration Program focuses on restoring functional habitats for salmon and other wildlife by removing noxious weeds, installing native plants, and removing barriers to fish passage.

GIS (Geographic Information Systems)

GIS works to provide the continued development and maintenance of the Tribe’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) through coordination, education, and guidance on the adoption of GIS Technologies for the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe.

Environmental Planning

The Environmental Compliance Monitoring Program monitors and assesses projects in the Snoqualmie Tribe’s Traditional area, on and off Reservation land, which may impact Environmental and Cultural resources and Human Health.

Solid Waste Management

ENR addresses issues of waste management through implementing recycling and composting throughout Tribal Administration. ENR also coordinates recycling events for the greater Snoqualmie Valley Community for large household items.

History

ENR was created in 2001 with capacity building funding from an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Indian General Assistance Grant (IGAP). An Integrated Resource Management Plan was developed to guide the department development based on the tribal community interests and concerns. ENR continues to grow and implement projects through strong community partnerships and dedicated staff.

Who is the ENR Department?

Environmental and Natural Resources (ENR) works to enhance, protect, and preserve the environment of the Snoqualmie reservation and traditional Tribal lands through habitat and water quality improvement projects, waste reduction and recycling, energy conservation, and education.

ENR works with multiple local and regional partners to address environmental issues important to the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe.
