[edit]Inherited from Karakhanid تَڤَرْ (tavar, “property, wealth, cattle”), from Proto-Turkic *tabar. Related to but not from the orthographically and semantically identical Russian товар (tovar), which was a Turkic loan into Proto-Slavic.
