Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *źʰátiṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ǰʰátiš, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰéntis, from *gʷʰen- (“to strike, slay”). Equivalent to हन् (han, “to kill”, root) + -ति (-ti).
