Women in Green's October 2024 edit-a-thon

[edit]

Hello WikiProject Latvia:

WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2024!

Running from October 1 to 31, 2024, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.

We hope to see you there!

Latvian voting systems - modified approval voting

[edit]

Approval voting#Latvia now says, "The Latvian parliament uses a modified version of approval voting within open list proportional representation, in which voters can cast either positive (approval) votes, negative votes or neither for any number of candidates." It would be helpful if additional information could be provided by knowledgeable Latvians. Is modified approval voting viewed as successful/helpful by Latvians? Have there been calls for repeal? Are Latvians advocating for using modified approval voting in elections other than parliament? Any additional information will be helpful. Thanks! Biography of grandmaster Viktors Pūpols

[edit]

Please correct biography of celebrated Latvian-American chess grandmaster Viktors Pūpols. He was born in Latvia. Many sources including https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessplayer?pid=24250.

Someone erroneously posted he was born in Tacoma. He was born in the Republic of Latvia. Thank you. It is easier that Latvians active on Wikipedia correct his birthplace. He was friends with fellow Latvian-born chess champion Elmārs Zemgalis who also immigrated to Latvia soon after World War II.

Viktors Pūpils was the informant on his mother Anna’s death certificate. Latvian-born Anna died in the United States is tou can see her death certificate uploaded on Findagrave.com
