Gonzo fan2007 (talk · contribs) - Gonzo fan2007 is a user who I met originally during one of the many fiascos about User:Starwars1955's sockpuppets. He was one of the many great users who were helping catch some of the socks, and as such I've paid attention to his edits since to see if he would make a good admin. This has certainly been the case. He's since done a lot of work at WP:FLC, and reactivated the Green Bay Packers WikiProject. He's helped out a lot on keeping Brett Farve a GA that's defended from socks, and has spent a nice amount of time at Wikipedia:Usernames for administrator attention. He contributed to all namespaces, is a competent user, and would make a good admin. Wizardman 01:06, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Questions for the candidate
[edit]Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: As an editor I enjoy working in all areas of the Wiki, and I love to try and do everything that I can do as an editor. I feel this is how I will approach adminship. As Wizardman pointed out, I have worked a lot over at WP:UAA and feel I fully understand how UAA works, so that will definitely be the first area I dedicate my admin work to. Earlier in my Wikipedia career, I did a lot of vandal fighting and new page patrolling, so I will definitely work over at WP:AIV and help with Category:CSD. I enjoy helping answer questions and will watch the WP:AN to see if my assistance is needed. Like I said earlier, I enjoy discovering new things and when I get the new buttons I will want to use each one and see what I can do to help make the Wiki a little better for our editors and more importantly our readers.

- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I am proud of all of my contributions to the 'pedia. That said, I would have to say that my work over at WikiProject Green Bay Packers (please come join if your a fan, we need all the help we can get :) and my work on Green Bay Packers related content is the most gratifying personally. Two of my three featured lists (Green Bay Packers seasons and List of Green Bay Packers first-round draft picks, one of which was on the main page in the WP:DYK section) were about the Packers and they were WP:PACKERS first featured content! I also enjoy working on templates. Some of my best work (imho) is my creation of {{Wikipedia policies and guidelines}} and improving {{Green Bay Packers}} from this to this. There is plenty of other stuff that I am proud of, so if you feel like perusing my work, you can check out the stuff I have worked on. When I brought my first list to WP:FLC, I found another area of Wikipedia I enjoy. I review lists over at WP:FLC and close nominations depending on consensus (Please come review some lists, we really would appreciate anyones input!). Truly my best contributions are the ones that make Wikipedia a more complete and better free encyclopedia for everyone to enjoy. So if I can succeed in making the Wiki better by any of my contributions, than I feel I have succeeded in what I have set out to do here.

- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I have been in many disagreements on Wikipedia, but I pride myself in working to solve problems instead of bickering over them. Like Wizardman stated, I was very involved with the User:Starwars1955 fiasco (due to the fact that he rarely edited any other article except Brett Favre). Although I am greatly saddened that that whole fiasco took up time that I and others could have used in other areas of Wikipedia, I did learn many things from fighting this vandal. The importance of WP:NOT, WP:SOCK, WP:BEANS, WP:3RR, WP:C, WP:DENY and so many other aspects of policy and guidelines that I couldn't list them all here. As with the Starwars1955 case, whenever I get in a debate I work to solve the problem instead of bickering. One main tool that I use is the talk page. Discussion will always lead to a result, whether it is proving your point or coming to a compromise. When I become an admin, I will still use the same thought process and work to solve problems instead of inflame them. Just as an editor, an admin's work is not only judged on his contributions, but is also judged on how they go about contributing. My demeanor and attitude will not change when I get the new buttons, so the way I went about doing things over the past 6 months is the way I will act in the future.

- 4. You come across the following articles marked as A7 speedies. How do you handle each?
- "Six Things Your Boss, Congressmen, and Pastor Don't Want you to Know About Success is a book that its author has appeared on many talk shows discussing." (the book's Amazon listing is included as a source)
- A:Doesn't meet A7 since its a book. I would remove the tag first. Then I would do my own search to see if the book is notable enough to have its own Wikipedia article, and depending on my results, I would either AFD it, add any sources I found and tag the article with any proper tags (clean-up. wikify, etc), or just leave it alone, all depends on what the article looks like.
Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 05:41, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- "The Pungent Spleens are a band that is preparing a U.S.-wide tour in Spring 2008." (sourced to an online music zine)
- A:On one hand a Zine isn't a reliable source, since it is basically a self-publication, but on the other hand preparing a U.S.-wide tour could meet our notability guidelines. I would do my own search on the band, and if I feel it has any notability whatsoever, or has some reliable sources citing notability I would remove the tag, add any sources or info I found and tag the page accordingly. If I feel the band has no notability whatsoever, outside of Myspace or Zines, then I would delete. If I feel that there may be some notability but it would be best for a community discussion on the matter, I would notify the original editor who tagged the article for speedy that going to AFD would be a better solution to the problem.
Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 05:41, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- "Bob Backgammon was the defeated Democratic candidate for the House of Representatives in Ohio's seventh district in the 2006 mid-term elections." (several news reports covering the election results are provided as sources)
- A:Remove tag and would not delete. Being the Democratic candidate for the House is an indication of significance or importance, thus not meeting A7. Although the article probably should stay, AFD could be a possibility depending on circumstances (candidate is unknown before running, was the only Dem candidate to run and lost 98% to 2%, ok I know its improbable, but there can always be extenuating circumstances, so I would leave the possibility of AFD open, since just being in the news is not criterion for inclusion per WP:NOT).
Gonzo fan2007 talk ♦ contribs 05:41, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- "Dr. Fritz Hitzelsplitz is a microbiologist who discovered a new species of fungus." (no source is provided)
- A:Doesn't meet A7 since discovering a new species of fungus is an indication of importance or significance. I would remove the speedy tag and do my own search to see if I could find a source or two, add any that I find, and tag it accordingly (unreferenced, more refs, etc).

- 5. If your a admin what would be the first thing you would fix up?--Pookeo9 19:59, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- A:Well I cannot say that I am going to go and fix something, but I will use the tools to help with the regular admin duties on the 'pedia. We have all seen the admin backlog notice before, so I hope that one more hand will help to make this work a bit easier for the group and go a bit faster. Basically, like I said before in question 1, I am here to make Wikipedia better for our editors but most importantly our readers, so if my receiving the admin tools will help make Wikipedia a better place to edit and read, then I am up for the duties required of me.
