The result of the debate was Delete JtkieferT | C | @ ---- 00:24, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Delete as overly-broad, unmaintainable, unverified listcruft. About one in twelve people are Europeans and I really have to wonder how people who work on lists of this sort (while acknowledging it takes effort) really expect to create something scaleable. We have categories for a reason. Marskell 17:12, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. As he says. Pilatus 17:15, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Delete I intended to become a pro-list activists, but in this case we already have numerous lists concerning people from European nations. To try to list all noteworthy Europeans would be a fool's errand.--T. Anthony 17:30, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Delete I can't think of a single person who looks up people as European. Antidote 17:57, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete - way too broad. Could potentially have millions of names. 23skidoo 19:04, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per above --Doc ask? 19:16, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per above. Unlike lists that combine two criteria, this list cannot even be justified by the technical limitations of the category system. — Haeleth Talk 22:42, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete per above. Eusebeus 23:01, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep as nomination is part of a campaign to make a WP:POINT --Elliskev 19:28, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Perhaps you should research the nominator. This is the only list I've placed on AfD. Marskell 22:06, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Delete The above voter seems to be confused. What point is this vote trying to show? EscapeArtistsNeverDie 20:29, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- No, I'm not confused.
- November 13 one AfD nomination for a list of people by nationality, religion, etc., namely List of Jewish bankers
- November 14 zero AfDs related to lists of people by nationality, religion etc.
- November 15 one AfD nomination for a list of people by nationality, religion, etc., namely Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Roman Catholics (2nd nomination)
- November 16 from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Roman Catholics (2nd nomination):
- Strong Delete utterly pointless -- Someone should get rid of List of Europeans too Antidote 00:31, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- If you're officially nominating the hundreds and hundreds of lists on Wikipedia just like this one and Europeans, you should probably announce this VfD a bit more broadly so we can properly get the community's consensus. I don't see how this list is any different from every other list on Wikipedia that lists noteworthy members of a certain race, religion, nationality, etc. -Silence 12:03, 16 November 2005 (UTC)
- November 16 the following articles were nominated for AfD
- List of Jewish publishers

- List of Jewish Recipients of National Medal of Technology

- List of Muslim athletes
- November 17 the following articles were nominated for AfD
- List of Catholic scientists
- List of Catholic musicians
- List of Catholic actors
- List of Catholic directors and producers
- List of Jewish Fellows of the Royal Society
- List of Church of Christ Scientists

- List of Catholic composers
- List of Europeans

- List of U.S. counties with African American majority populations
- African Americans in the United States Congress
- African-Americans in the United States military before desegregation
- List of Italian-American mobsters

- No, I'm not confused.
- And I'm getting tired of doing it... you get the WP:POINT? --Elliskev 21:24, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- This is not point. Everything Elliskev has listed was not nominated by me. It seems odd to draw up a list of this sort when the nominator of this did not nominate those. Marskell 22:11, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- Based on a message on my user talk from the nominator of this AfD, I withdraw my vote for Keep and change it to Abstain in the interest of assuming good faith. I do, however, question the great flurry of AfDs for specifically religion/etnicity/nationality lists by users that were Delete voters on an obviously contentious Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Roman Catholics (2nd nomination). I am not a big fan of lists, but I'm also not a big fan of what I see as an inappropriate way of dealing with them. --Elliskev 00:47, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- I agree there were many suspicious ones. I voted against most of the "lists of religious people" delete votes. I did vote in favor of deleting List of Catholic scientists at first because I said it was redundant with List of Christian scientists. However with the general Christian one being on deletion vote I have strongly, intensely, changed my mind on the Catholic scientists one and I'm even trying to fix that article. That said I'm glad you switched to abstain, because I think this was one of the few credible ones. We have List of Austrians, List of Belgians, List of Catalans, List of Danes, List of Dutch people, List of English people, List of French people, List of Germans, List of Greeks, List of famous Romanians and even List of Andorrans. Alas I don't think there presently is List of San Marinese or List of Liechtensteiners, but still European people are well listed.--T. Anthony 07:01, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
- (I just created a Liechtensteiner one, but otherwise you know)

Delete a rediculous list; as said above, one in twelve people are European, having a list for people of an enitre continent is bizzare. As for the recent increase in nominations for lists relating to ethnic/religious groups; if the nominater for this is a different one then I think this can be considered seperately from the wider campaign Robdurbar 13:50, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Delete. This is just bizarre. Pilatus 17:27, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
