DYK for Buellia aethalea

[edit]

On 13 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Buellia aethalea, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Buellia aethalea, a species of fungus, is also known as the "darkened button lichen" due to the small black spots on its crusty grey surface? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Buellia aethalea. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Buellia aethalea), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Request on 20:52:48, 18 April 2024 for assistance on AfC submission by MPRabbity

[edit]

Thank for your help with the Martha's Rule article. What you said made good sense and I've now made substantial changes along the lines you suggested. It would be terrific if you could take another look. Thank you.

MPRabbity (talk) 20:52, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MPRabbity, You've headed in the right direction, by making those adjustments. However, the lead needs a rewrite. Please move out the quotes and supportive sentence to a latter section, you could create a sub-section such as Reception under Implemention. There you could insert those quotes supporting, as well as criticising the topic. X (talk) 20:57, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MPRabbity, Moreover, although quotes are often helpful, but this article seems to be full of them. Trim down the direct quote unquote and rather try to paraphrase in your own words and portray people's opinions. Not all quotes should be trimmed down tho, but currently there's too many. My AfC Submission

[edit]

I submitted the page Draft:American Ringtail as an article candidate and you rejected it because of a WP:GNG issue, you said after I fixed it I can resubmit it, which I have done. Let me know if any more issues with the article arise and I can fix those too. (PS: Sorry that the Cat mother died, I hope she rests in peace!) Thanks, GalaxyCat1 (talk) 16:35, 19 April 2024 (CDT)

@WPGalaxyCat1, Thank you for your condolences. I've seen your edits to the draft right after you had made them. But usually, I do not re-review a draft I've declined before, hence I've left it for others to review. Still, I'd have reviewed it again, but unfortunately, I'm still doubtful of the draft's sourcing. The blog you added appears to be an unreliable source. And I made some little adjustments to the writing during my first review, but it still needs some rewriting. The behavior section especially, doesn't quite read like a formal encyclopedia-toned statement. For example, it incorporates the use of latex words such as "probably", this type of tone is not great here, it gives a notion that this statement might be dubious. You could also rewrite the earlier lines from that section, such as They have some habits that may be remnants of their genes, maybe even dating back to Solomon, these habits include hiding their food and once they have finished eating, they will sometimes attempt to bury their food. Instead like this They manifest certain behavioral patterns that are speculated to be evolutionary remnants, potentially tracing back to antiquity, including the tendency to conceal their food and engage in postprandial attempts at burying it. X (talk) 21:51, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@X, Okay, Thank you, I will either try to fix that or with auto-confirmed access transfer the page over as an article in mainspace (I will fix the behaviour section first). Would that be okay or is that not something I am supposed to do, it would be helpful to have it in mainspace as it would be more open for standard editing which would be helpful. - GalaxyCat1 (talk) 16:59, 19 April 2024 (CDT)
@WPGalaxyCat1, I'd advise you against it. Being in the draft space allows for the betterment of the content, with feedback from reviewers such as myself, potentially making it suitable for mainspace. Although you may technically be able to move it to mainspace yourself, that does not mean you should practice that. It is strongly discouraged, as it'd risk your article being deleted rapidly (I can also see that it was already deleted once). Instead of going that path, I'd suggest you reach for help from experienced editors at the Tea House. Also, you may consider following the suggestions I gave. The friendly editors at the Tea House will also help you out. Regards. X (talk) 22:07, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@X Okay, Will do. Thanks! - GalaxyCat1 (talk) 17:11, 19 April 2024 (CDT)

Draft:Shalom Meckenzie

[edit]

Why would you say the article doesn't show significant coverage? He is a leading shareholder in a huge company, with coverage in all main financial websites Both in Israel and The US @Xkalponik עומר תשבי (talk) 10:47, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@עומר תשבי, Significant coverage means that this person has been talked about a lot in trustworthy places like newspapers, books, magazines, or academic journals. It's like saying, "Hey, this is really important or interesting, and here's why!" If all you find are short mentions or things that sound more like advertisements or press releases, it's not enough. Wikipedia wants solid, independent sources that really dive into the topic, showing that it's notable and worth talking about. The draft Shalom Meckenzie, although seems to have references that are considered major publications, but the type of coverage ranges from Press Releases (which is not reliable/independent), and the rest are passing mentions about him (doesn't solely focus on him).
If you disagree with my decision, you may resubmit it and another reviewer will review it. Reagrds. X (talk) 10:55, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft: Iker Unzu

[edit]

Hello, Xkalponik. Thank you for reviewing the draft I created. I would like to know the motives for the decline of the draft. Iker Unzu is a well-known Spanish internet creator and one of the most followed and recognized internet celebrities in Spain and other Spanish-speaking countries. Unzu has many articles from trustworthy and notable media, like Heraldo de Aragón and Flooxer, owned by Atresmedia. Heraldo de Aragón posted an article today (https://www.heraldo.es/noticias/ocio-y-cultura/2024/04/22/iker-unzu-zaragoza-serie-original-instagram-espana-1728261.amp.html), that talks about Unzu in deep, his collaboration with Meta & Instagram and his current life/work in Los Angeles, California. Iker Unzu is the first ever creator to create a series in partnership with Instagram, an essential event for the platform. As the series started last week, various articles are being written about it. Unzu has also made multiple appearances on Spanish TV. His book is being released on May 22nd; even more articles will be written when it comes out. I would like to know the issue with the draft because there are plenty of reliable sources that show Unzu’s notability. What changes should be made before it can be accepted? Elisa Polea (talk) 21:00, 22 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Elisa Polea, At the time of my review, the new source you mentioned wasn't there for obvious reason. This one seems a good one. But one would not cut it. Try to add at least two more such sources that are independent (not interviews, which are primary sources), objective (don't solely promote the subject and read like an advertisement), reliable (has to be from a major publication that is considered reliable), and discusses the subject in depth, not just passing or brief mention. The source you mentioned here seems to match these. But at least two more such sources are required, which I did not find in the draft at the time of the decline. Regards. @Diannaa, It was a short paragraph and I suppose didn't think/take much notice of the close paraphrasing or I don't quite remember if it was an accidental copy paste as I was busy writing the entire article. Nonetheless, would be more careful going forward. X (talk) 22:36, 27 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have sent you a note about a page you started

[edit]

Hi Xoak. Thank you for your work on Amir Hamja. Another editor, Noorullah21, has reviewed it as part of new pages patrol and left the following comment:

Excellently written article with strong sources, nice job.

To reply, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Noorullah21}}. (Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Noorullah (talk) 18:06, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Noorullah21, thank you! Often times my countrymen and people from South Asia in general, albeit meeting notability, do not get a page written about them, I have been trying to reduce that gap as much as I can creating articles on Bengali creative professionals. I've looked up your contributions, and you're doing an amazing job. Keep up the good work. Regards. X (talk) 19:38, 2 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Primeshow Entertainment

[edit]

Hi @Xoak, Hope your doing well. Thanks for the guidance in Prathinidhi 2. Can you please check this page Draft:Primeshow Entertainment. Thankyou. RadisonRathod (talk) 18:48, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@RadisonRathod, I did, and unfortunately it doesn't appear notable yet. It may become notable once more films come under its banner and the studio itself gets more in-depth coverage. X (talk) 20:45, 5 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've searched the company's history on Google, and I found two more films produced by the company. However, the articles about these films only passing comments. Can you guide me on this please. RadisonRathod (talk) 03:37, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@RadisonRathod, We need coverage of the film studio itself. Articles that mainly focus on the films and mentions the production house name in a few or single sentence, would not constitute proper significant coverage. Try to find coverage that mostly focus on the studio itself, their works, activities, background/history, management etc.
Not all coverages need to be in-depth. Brief mentions are fine as long as they're used for verifying certain elements or information, however, they do not contribute to establishing notability. X (talk) 13:15, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo, the creator (User:Adsville) of this draft, could very well be a sock/meat or of a paid ring. I don't see any other reasons why'd that user, now blocked, seemed so dedicated to get someone else's draft getting approved. Pinging you here just in case, as you recently dealt with them. X (talk) 20:04, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could be, but that account was abandoned in 2023.-- Ponyobons mots 21:16, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ponyo, I take it as that stale accounts are usually not blocked then? (largely unfamiliar with these sides of wiki). X (talk) 21:20, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's sort of at the discretion of the CU or admin. There are so many active socking cases, it really isn't worth the time to investigate old abandoned accounts. If they come back, however, then it will be looked at more closely.-- Ponyobons mots 21:48, 15 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Xoak, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 20:10, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Xoak,

I don't know how busy you may be, but Incase you're free, you may want to help, mostly with your knowledge and research for this draft Draft:Adam Thorn (biologist) (I really don't have time, I may have one thing or the other pop out) . @SafariScribe, Hi, sorry for the delay as I'm quite tied up. I do remember the draft, and at that time it was evident to me that the subject is notable. However, the draft needs some touch-ups (especially with NPOV and removal of deprecating sources). I'd have amended the page myself if I could, but I'm in the midst of my final year exam, so I'd look into it after it's finished. The creator (or AFC submitter) seems to be stale rn, so there's no issue there as well. Regards. X (talk) 16:19, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:37, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
