Outing is outing, even if an editor is banned by Arbcom. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:16, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Fuck, forgot again. Second time I think. I cannot remember this rule for the life of me, probably because it makes no sense to me. Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:20, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I don't disagree that it's a bit odd that Wikipedia exists in a bubble cut off from the rest of the internet, but thems the rules. WP:VPP if you'd like to take a swing at changing it. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 16:24, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Brief blocks as memory aids might work. Sean.hoyland (talk) 16:55, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you get blocked for outing after warnings it's not normally brief. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 18:24, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
A sockmaster who made over 6000 edits spread over 4 accounts told me via email that they think long blocks are one of the causes of sockpuppetry. Setting aside the well they would say that, it has stuck in my mind, unlike the rules about social media account names apparently, because they might be right, at least in some cases. It's hard to tell whether there is a relationship between block length and effectiveness (from a behavioral change perspective). Sean.hoyland (talk) 19:06, 2 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
