Save Percentage Record on Roger Crozier Saving Grace Award Page

Sorry about accidently almost starting an edit war (I am the same person who uses IP Address 98.179.165.213). What I am trying to say is that I am confused by the fact that no site on the internet that is associated with the NHL, ESPN.com, or other sports page is giving Brian Elliott credit for breaking a record. The rules for the record are unclear. I would have addressed the other IP address directly, but their talk page was red-linked. I left a section on the page in question's talk page, but at last check I had no reply. I have been unable to find sources confirming that their has been no change in hand of the record but I have found no page confirming either. Perhaps you could help us end the dispute. Thank you for whatever help you can provide. (Note: I may reply to your replies from a different IP address; it is still me.) 198.7.241.99 (talk) 12:54, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Just an update on my last post: there has been a reply to my message on the article talk page page, but it is simply stating the other side of the dispute (it does not help resolve the dispute). 198.7.241.99 (talk) 12:59, 16 April 2012 (UTC)

Invitation to diacritics guideline discussion at WT:BLP
Hi, you were one of 100+ Users who has commented on a living person Requested Move featuring diacritics (e.g. the é in Beyoncé Knowles) in the last 30 days. Following closure of Talk:Stephane Huet RM, a tightening of BLP guidelines is proposed. Your contribution is invited to WT:BLP to discuss drafting a proposal for tightening BLP accuracy guidelines for names. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:04, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Diacritics

I read your reply on the WT:BLP page, and I don't disagree with your observation. However, I don't see how any of this is different from the usual pattern for loan words (especially ones that come from French). I wonder how much the differences in opinions over diacritics are driven by the more multilingual culture that exists in Canada, compared to that of the US or even Britain. Regardless, I do hope that the community rejects this and other attempts to force the use of diacritics through policy.

Chicago Blackhawks National Anthem

Hi, thanks for your feedback on the information I have been adding to the Chicago Blackhawks page regarding many of the fan's willful violation of the US Flag Code during the US National Anthem. I trust that with your help, we can come up with a good solution in how best to author the information.

I have read the Wikipedia policy you sent me "Neutral point of View" and after reading it, I believe that I am not in violation. So I think there is some kind of communication breakdown. I am simply trying to provide a fact and not argue with anyone. There is nothing more neutral then just talking facts. If anything, denying and hiding the fact would be a non-neutral stance.

As a Chicagoan and life-long BlackHawk fan, I feel that I have a firm grasp on this issue. The fans a) don't face the flag b) don't put their hands over their hearts/salute and c) don't stand at attendance, but clap their hands and shout. All actions violate the US Flag code. It is also a fact that many NHL Fans and Americans find the behavior reprehensible. All you have to do is attend a Blackhawks game in Chicago and watch some disgusted faces during the song to realize that fact.

I have attempted to create suitable Wikipedia content that points out of or more of those facts, and attempted to provide references to a) the US Flag Code b) published newspaper articles about the issue and c) blog posts and Facebook groups about the issue. I suggest that we keep the comment very simple and as non-threatening as possible to Blackhawks fans who don’t want to believe the facts.

Please let me know what you think, and how best to communicate that on the Blackhawks page.

Thanks. Mattdruid (talk) 19:27, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the tips on using good references. What do you think about this Fox News piece they did? http://video.foxnews.com/v/4120396/disrespectful-hockey-tradition/ Mattdruid (talk) 20:51, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

The issue of sports fans "violating the US Flag Code" is legally on about the same level as tearing the tag off your mattress. And just FYI, I don't like that sort of thing either. But they paid for their tickets, and there's no law compelling them to do, or not do, anything in particular while the anthem is being played. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots22:45, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

stats question

Are there any official guidelines on precisely when season stats should be updated? I was under the impression that once the regular season is done, player stats can be updated. I've run across an editor who seems to be insisting that stats can't be updated until the team is out of the playoffs. Is there any official rule on this? Freshfighter9talk 02:21, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Yeah you wouldn't update until they are out of the playoffs because you wouldn't be able to update their playoff stats yet. The idea on waiting till the end of the season is so that we don't have partial stats which you would have if you didn't wait till the playoffs were done. We do update on team pages at the end of the regular season but that is more because missing playoff stats on team pages would be obvious. But say you didn't get back to a player that you updated the regular season stats on and so didn't add the playoffs and no one notices, then the stat line is all wrong until someone notices. -DJSasso (talk) 11:42, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
OK. This should maybe be clarified somewhere to avoid confusion in the future.Freshfighter9talk 11:46, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Tournamnet in Toronto May 2008

Hi, I'm slowly working on getting the Sebastian Collberg article up to decent shape in time for the draft, and was wondering if you could help me out a bit. I've tried googling it but came up short, but apparently Collberg was invited to join a tournament for Canada's best 14 year olds in May 2008, held in Toronto. Do you have any idea which tournament this could be, and would you consider it being a notable tournament, worthy of inclusion in the article? —KRM (Communicate!) 01:39, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

None at all, actually. At age 14, that would be a bantam or midget level tournament, and there is none of widespread fame that I can think of. Obviously not that important if sources are lacking. Resolute 01:28, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Origins of diacritics compromise

Last year, when the origins of the diacritics compromise was being questioned, I tried to look into it and found virtually no discussion of it on various ice hockey-related talk pages, other than GoodDay suggesting it. I've dug around a bit more across more pages, and I still can't find anything other than some discussion on GoodDay's and Krm500's talk pages, with limited participation. Am I missing something?

For the record, here are the discussion threads I found that covered the compromise proposal, up until GoodDay modified Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Team pages format to record it:

Are you aware of a more thorough discussion (on some other editor's talk page, or some other talk page)? isaacl (talk) 17:30, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

My guess is you didn't go back far enough. I believe the compromise may have been reached in 2006 without actually codifying it. But this is just going off my old memory. I haven't gone and looked. I thought it was the summer of 2006 that it was created....but now that I think about it, it could have been 2007 like your links suggest. Either way I don't think you can point to a specific discussion, there was a summer, probably 2007 where move wars and reverting happened on many many pages and there were discussions fragmented everywhere which is what caused the compromise to come about. It was mostly created ironically to stop GoodDay from continuing to fight everyone with reverts. Even if it was him who basically suggested creating it. -DJSasso (talk) 18:10, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Looking at your links I think its that last link you post that it was considered to be a full out consensus. -DJSasso (talk) 18:15, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
The earlier discussions on the "Player pages format" talk page indicate a situation much like now, with the use of diacritics being debated, but without reference to any compromise. I believe January 7, 2007, is the first time the compromise was discussed on this talk page, but if you happen to recall some other places where the topic may have been raised, I am interested in knowing about it. As far as I can tell at this moment, the compromise was an idea suggested by GoodDay, and then other editors just went along with it, without any discussion until June 29 (after the "Team pages format" page had been updated). This is fine as a working consensus, but unfortunately it didn't seem to leave any paper trail to confirm it. isaacl (talk) 18:21, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Well the many discussions since then that have upheld it really is what makes it a solid project consensus. It's never been a guideline or anything which is why we always call it a compromise. No one on the wiki is bound by it, it was just a cease fire really. Theoretically any user could go and start editing against it in either direction, but they would just end up causing the other side to go reverting them and so on and so forth. It was essentially our way of avoiding having these time consuming and wasting discussions. It worked for a number of years until a year or so ago when Dolovis started trying to push and poke at it to see if it would crumble. I will see what I can dig up as far as any other conversations but I think you have it pretty well summed up there. -DJSasso (talk) 18:25, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
I honestly don't know if we ever had a formal 'yea or nay' discussion on it. More that the discussion I linked to formed the basis, and subsequent discussions/arguments led to it becoming entrenched. It has worked thus far, though, imo. Resolute 18:53, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Yeah that is basically what I was trying to get at. -DJSasso (talk) 18:56, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Would be cool if somehow my WP:HOCKEY compromise could be adopted to the who English Wikipedia. The divider could be bio & non-bio articles. GoodDay (talk) 21:35, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Honestly, I think you're fighting a losing war here, GoodDay. Like it or not, diacritics are permeating common English usage. The technical restrictions and general laziness that led to their disuse are slowly being defeated. English is a mutt language. It adapts, and it is clearly adapting to the use of diacritics. Resolute 18:31, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
It's sad, seeing English language Wikipedia morphing into Multiple language Wikipedia. Particularly when one knows there is other language Wikipedias (correctly) with diacritics (examples: Finnish, Swedish, Czech, French etc.). It's the shere number of multiple language editors, that's behind this linguistic tak-over. GoodDay (talk) 21:01, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
I think you're overreacting, honestly. "Sven Bärtschi is a top prospect in Calgary" is still English. "Sven Bärtschi är en topp utsikter i Calgary" would be shown in an 'other language Wikipedia'. Resolute 22:15, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
In ictu oculi, makes Darwinek look moderate, with his mass page moves to diacritics. I'm likely going to be topic-banned from diacritics (though hopefully not where hockey articles are concerned), since many pro-diacritics editors will use the Arbcase as an opportunity to bury me. It wouldn't surprise me, if someday I retired from this Multi-Language Wikipedia. Somewheres along the way, the multi-lingual editors & their supporters have taken over what was originally English Wikipedia - heck, you were there for the takeover of the NHL player articles. I'm amazed that the WP:HOCKEY compromise has lasted this long, even though it's still not being fully implimented as far as North American-based hockey articles are concerned. I hope (if for a brief moment) you can understand my frustrations. GoodDay (talk) 00:30, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
I can understand your frustrations - I hate when this place doesn't conform to my beliefs as well. However, I have to be honest. If you end up with a topic ban, it will be because of how you handle the issue. You've got a nearly xenophobic single-mindedness about the diacritics issue that is bordering on zealotry. It's not good for you, and it is why Steven felt he had to escalate the situation. I'm not quite sure how I intend to frame my evidence yet, becuase while I think it would be helpful for you to step back from the issue, accept what is, and focus on other things, I also don't think your behaviour comes close to that of the last zealot I tackled in an arbitration case. You mean to do good, but man, sometimes you just have to let an issue go. I can think of many gnomish tasks you can do that will help improve the 'pedia. There's no need to let squiggly lines be your Alamo, even if you do feel strongly about them. Resolute 04:03, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Imagine what would've happened, if I'd carried on like some of the pro-diacritics editors, by unilatterally moving pages to non-diacritics names (source provided)? The un-even treatment is gaulling. No wonder Masterhatch virtually retired & Ravenswing turned his back from the diacritics topic. They both got sick of the BS treatment. GoodDay (talk) 13:53, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
To assume that Masterhatch left because of diacritics is a big stretch. And Ravenswing quite rightly probably sees the crusade you are on as being a waste of everyone's time. I believe he has said so in the past. To be honest your behaviour has been considerably worse than any of the extremists on the opposite side of the issue. An example was your comment into a completely unrelated discussion on Jimbos page recently about boycotting and diacritics. Stuff like that is why are are where you currently are. On the diacritics issue you are by far the most extreme editor on either side of the issue. Bringing it up at every chance you can in every venue you can, inserting comments in unrelated discussions, getting into revert wars with people. The fact the project had to come up with a compromise because of your actions really speaks to the fact you probably need to tone your rhetoric down. -DJSasso (talk) 13:59, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
That is something you should be noting in your evidence section. Arguing over the content dispute in evidence is pointless - ArbCom does not rule on content, so your evidence submitted thus far is not going to help you. You should be submitting into evidence assertions like how you always use RM to discuss changes (with examples) and the like. This case is not about the use of diacritics, it is about whether or not your behaviour surrounding them is disruptive. Your task is to convince the committee either that it is not disruptive, or at the very least, to minimize the scope of restrictions you may face. Resolute 14:04, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
I was right in there with Hatch and Raven back then but I more or less stop caring. Think about how many hours you have spent on this. Please: at least lay off of the contaminating the english language angle. TerminalPreppie (talk) 15:12, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
And to add, I generally agree with DJSasso's comments. I'll be honest, my intentions in this case will be to press for a partial topic ban - e.g.: to prevent you from engaging in the diacritics debates outside of accepted venues (RM, any potential RFC). The comment on Jimbo's talk page is exactly the kind of nonsense that people are concerned about. Resolute 14:04, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
I don't know how to interlink on Wikipedia (i.e. show diffs) & it's difficult to come up with diffs on such a broad scope (the scope being - diacritics should be limited on English Wikipedia). I'm not looking to restrict anyone from any topics. I just got peeved because there was an editor making uni-latteral page moves to diacritics & he wasn't being stopped. Yet, If I'd gone the same route & moved pages to non-diacritics? I'd been long-termed blocked by now. Anyways, I'm already convinced that my goose is cooked, at the Arbcom case & so I'll be putting up little defence. It'll be one of the most biased cases held, no doubt. GoodDay (talk) 14:10, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Ok, to find a diff, go to the history of a page, and use the two radio buttons to select the edit you wish to highlight. Put the left 'dot' to the edit before the edit(s) you wish to highlight, and the right dot on the one you are focused on. Then press the "compare selected revisions" button. You can then wrap the resulting website address (URL) in single square brackets to link to it. e.g.: your last post to my talk page would look like this: [1] (in code: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AResolute&diff=495132303&oldid=495131357] ) You can add a descriptive title to the diff by adding a space and whatever words you wish after the URL. (GoodDay's comment ; [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3AResolute&diff=495132303&oldid=495131357 GoodDay's comment] ). And this comment is one of the things you should be posting to evidence. Give them examples of unilateral moves by others, then show that you are using RM instead. Resolute 14:22, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

I haven't a clue as to what keyboard buttons you're mentioning -- in otherwords 'I'm cooked'. GoodDay (talk) 14:26, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
This may help: Help:Diff. Otherwise, perhaps ask on the Talk page for the evidence section for help formulating links on the evidence you wish to post. A clerk may be able to help you there. Your examples of unilateral moves won't need diffs, just the article links. For RMs, you can likely do the same... just wikilink the talk pages. Resolute 14:30, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
Note the Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GoodDay/Evidence page has a link to Wikipedia:Simple diff and link guide. isaacl (talk) 14:32, 30 May 2012 (UTC)
I'll use the recent 'mass' page movements & RMs, as evidence. GoodDay (talk) 14:36, 30 May 2012 (UTC)

Correct Me If I'm Wrong...

Even though the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are now the Mississauga Steelheads, should the article regarding the Majors team not be kept on that page? I see someone has changed it to a redirect. If we're following past protocol, that of the Detroit Jr. Red Wings and several old Kingston names, among others I could research in other team articles, establishes past protocol.

In that vein, Toronto St. Michael's Majors (which moved to Mississauga in the first place) is still there.

I'm reverting the redirect, but we may need to clarify the precedent here if someone insists otherwise. Just a heads-up. CycloneGU (talk) 04:09, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Actually, now that I research, Bearcat moved the article. I'll ask him too, but he's breaking precedent. CycloneGU (talk) 04:10, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
If it is just a rename, then I would agree with moving the Mississauga St. Mikes Majors to the new title. The Toronto --> Mississauga change could be conisdered a move, and therefore an article split. Resolute 04:18, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
So why does Kingston Raiders exist then? We have two precedents if what you say is true. In my eyes the article must be restored to its original location and a new one kept.
I've also posted at Bearcat's page. You're welcome to comment. CycloneGU (talk) 04:19, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Because we can't monitor every single article all the time? I'd certainly encourage a merge and redirect of Kingston Canadiens and Kingston Raiders into the Kingston Frontenacs article. Resolute 04:23, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Fair enough. Can you show me where this guideline is for my reference? I forget who as it was over a year ago, but I asked about the existence of such articles and was told that precedent dictated it as the old name is considered a separate entity and a different team from the new one (it's an ownership thing apparently). At the same time, the history of the old team is in the new article, and a redirect would solve it in all cases. I'm kind of on the fence here. =) CycloneGU (talk) 04:31, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
It's been discussed a few times at WT:HOCKEY, but I am not sure it has ever formally been codified as a guideline. I am speaking to my own opinion on the matter, as well as my read of what the general consensus has been within the hockey project. It might be worth starting a new discussion there about this to do something of a sanity check on how we should process these. Resolute 04:40, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
I would add that an ownership change is an illogical point to split an article on though. Afterall, it would necessitate several splits of Montreal Canadiens for example. I think in this case, people are seeing the name change and splitting there. But I don't favour that. Only for a relocation or if a franchise folds and is replaced in the same market by a new franchise. Resolute 04:42, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
That does make some sense. I might have to look up my old conversation as well (it might even be on my talk page, I haven't archived in a while). For now I'll start at WT:HOCKEY. I do wonder if it's wise to match what's done in past articles for now until something is decided.
Either way, will create the thread. Thanks! CycloneGU (talk) 04:47, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Montreal Expos

"Added a hidden note -- might help probably won't" : Actually it would've helped, so thanks for adding it! I saw that they were on the list of defunct Canadian teams and looked at list of defunct MLB teams and saw that someone had asked why the Expos weren't there and never got a response. I thought about that they might not be considered defunct but saw that they were listed as defunct in some categories so went ahead and added them to this one. Thanks to you and User:Baseball Bugs for being kind in your revert. Best, -- Michael Scott Cuthbert (talk) 01:54, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Heh, you're welcome. Personally, I think they could be considered defunct since the team is even though the franchise is not, but the majority of the baseball project disagrees, and I respect the consensus. Resolute 02:00, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Quebec team exemptions

Howdy Resolute. What was WP:HOCKEY's decision on that? GoodDay (talk) 02:06, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

As I said, I never saw the discussion that spawned your comment at WT:HOCKEY, but since you complained about an exemption for QMJHL and LNAH articles, I took that to mean that we won't hide the diacritics on related articles. Resolute 02:08, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I'll proceed on the assumption that they're not allowed. I'm not around those articles that often anyways - as I'm mostly puttering around the NHL & AHL stuff. GoodDay (talk) 02:11, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
My recommendation is that you simply ignore the Quebec articles for now. You won't do yourself any favours in your arbitration case if you engage in a conflict, which those articles seem likely to do. Definitely stick to the NHL and AHL for now if you feel it necessary to continue monitoring for diacritics. Resolute 02:14, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
My interest in the junior leagues are limited, except for the Memorial Cup tournaments. On reflection, I don't recall 'ever' editing around the KHL articles. GoodDay (talk) 02:16, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I think you meant CHL, and clearly you have, since the first three of AGK's links were from Quebec Junior league articles. Resolute 02:21, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Yep, Canadian Hockey Leauge articles. I have edited Quebec League articles in the past, too. GoodDay (talk) 02:22, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I do recall a discussion on retaining accents for players in Quebec-specific leagues, since their coverage is generally in Quebec media which use the accents, so I believe this is where the consensus currently lies. isaacl (talk) 07:00, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

It's not that hard to find what he calls the exemption. Its right there on the main wp:hockey page. "All North American hockey pages should have player names without diacritics, except where their use is likewise customary (specifically, in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and the Ligue Nord-Américaine de Hockey)." Bolding mine. -DJSasso (talk) 11:27, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

But of course, another exemption in favour of diacritics usage. Meanwhile, remember the birthplaces in the NHL roster Templates? the fairness of it all, is overwhelming. GoodDay (talk) 13:19, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

GoodDay, you are well aware that place names on the entire wiki keep them unless they have a translation like Munich. Your incessant droning on about our compromise not including them is a perfect example of why you are at arbcom right now. A wikiproject can't overrule the entire wiki. But you already know that, you are just trying to get reactions as usual. If you really want to change that you would go to a location where change can happen if there is consensus such as the geographic place name page. -DJSasso (talk) 13:23, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Meanwhile, WP:HOCKEY won't let me hide diacritics on Canada Cup & World Cup of Hockey articles, which are both NHL based. Exemption are made for the North American-based hockey articles, but not for Non-North American hockey articles. One shouldn't be surprised that I resigned my membership for the WikiProject. GoodDay (talk) 13:29, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Those are international tournaments. Our compromise has nothing to do with being NHL based. Its based on North American vs. International. If those two tournaments only included North American teams then yes we would not use diacritics in them, but they don't. -DJSasso (talk) 13:33, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Honestly GoodDay, you are doing yourself no favours by making every aspect of this into a battleground. Resolute 13:39, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm going to be barred from diacritics, no doubt. I'm just pointing out the 'unfairness' at WP:HOCKEY, by its adding that 'Quebec exemption amendement' to the North American half of the agreement & yet not adding an 'exemption amendment' to the Non-North American half. GoodDay (talk) 13:44, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

But the FA status is not showing up in the article Talk page (milestones) nor the star on the article itself. Is there some additional step that needs to be taken? The FAC page says a bot will do all that automatically. PS: I restored pi to the pending TFAR list. --Noleander (talk) 13:44, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Arbcom Case

Hey Resolute. What's Djsasso hyperventilating about? AGK asked for diffs on editors who've brought evidence against me. Djsasso hasn't brought any evidence against me. GoodDay (talk) 20:52, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

In fairness, I name dropped him first in that section, so you can blame me. But he has commented elsewhere in the case, so he does fall into the scope of your complaint that the people who are commenting on you in the case have opposed your use of diacritics. Resolute 22:18, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
I'm basically concentrating on the 3 evidence-editors who've had 'very little' contact with me. Those who've only been in dispute with me these last few weeks, shouldn't be putting evidence forward. GoodDay (talk) 22:39, 7 June 2012 (UTC)
Besides, it would take me months to collect up the diffs which show Djsasso & myself in disputes ;) GoodDay (talk) 22:40, 7 June 2012 (UTC)

Being restricted from the diacritics is acceptable to me, including the hockey articles. I've had no problems in gnoming & wouldn't mind if I was even restricted from all talkpages - my own talkpage excepted, of course. GoodDay (talk) 16:27, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

You should probably state that in your reply to AGK. And make it clear you are aware that if you are placed under such a restriction that violation = block. Arbitration enforcement doesn't often come with warning shots. Resolute 16:43, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
GoodDay, Resolute and I have done a lot of work in your arbitration case laying out reasons for minimizing any restrictions on your participation, but I would feel better about the time spent if you would follow up with your own statements, picking up the directions we have indicated. isaacl (talk) 17:50, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
After 'today', I'm going to avoid discussiong diacritics on talkpages (my talkpage excepted, of course) & avoid 'deleting or hiding' them on articles. GoodDay (talk) 18:08, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Couldn't help yourself could you? This is exactly the sort of thing people are asking you to stop doing. If anything this comment probably shot yourself in the foot. -DJSasso (talk) 18:36, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
To be honest, although it's a melodramatic posting, it's an easily ignored one if you're not interested, and it doesn't push a specific view, just asks for the previously established consensus to be continued. It's in its own separate thread, so doesn't interrupt someone else's conversation. So I don't think this is a prime example of edits that GoodDay has been asked to stop. (Rest assured all of us here know where we can find links to those edits.) isaacl (talk) 19:19, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. GoodDay (talk) 19:22, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Well one of the things he has been asked is to stop with the melodramatic posting. It was a central focus of his RfC. But hey, if he wants to make those kinds of edits during the Arb case when it could push him towards the site ban, its up to him. :) Just pointing out that it really is proving peoples case against him. -DJSasso (talk) 19:24, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Pattern of behaviour example though. Innocuous comment taken in isolation, but GoodDay, I do see it as an example that you still aren't getting what we are saying. This isn't about diacritics any more. It's about interacting with others. AGK noted your BISE topic ban, and he is now bringing up your engagement in conflicts on Canadian topics and hockey/diacritics topics. Simply saying "I won't add or remove diacritics anymore" is not you addressing the issue. You like to get in the middle of contentious issues. No matter how good your intentions may be, you seem to travel from dispute to dispute. That is what needs to stop. Honestly, if you aren't going to step away from the project for a while (whether voluntary or otherwise), I do think you need to just pretty much ignore most of Wikipedia. If ArbCom allows you to stick around, you need to just pick a gnomish action you want to do, do it, and pretend the rest of Wikipedia doesn't exist. If not, you'll be forced to the sidelines in a hurry. Resolute 19:28, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
After today, I won't be involved in any contentious issues. I leave it up to Arbcom to decide if my decision is voluntary or otherwise. GoodDay (talk) 19:32, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I guarantee you it won't be voluntary. Resolute 19:33, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
The end result is the same. It's matter of will I be allowed to gnome or not. GoodDay (talk) 19:34, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
I believe there are other examples in the posted evidence that do a better job of shooting himself in the foot, but I won't rehash the case here. GoodDay, I can't think of any more ways to explain further how you can address the community's concerns, so I hope you will do your best to appreciate the expressed, good faith advice, and figure how a way to take advantage of it. Good luck. isaacl (talk) 19:47, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
After today, I'm sticking to gnoming :) GoodDay (talk) 19:52, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
Good to know, but do you understand why we are asking you to disengage from the drama pits? Resolute 20:07, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
So I won't get perma-banned from Wikipedia. GoodDay (talk) 20:12, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
No, that is the potential consequence. It is not the why. The why, GoodDay, is that your participation in these disputes rarely helps resolve them. At best, you tend to be ignored, at worst, you drag issues out. But it is disruptive because you keep going back to the same wells with the same comments and the same obstinate refusal to let issues go. And my perception is that you seek these disputes out. Personally, I think you are here for three reasons: 1. a little socializing (e.g. some of the conversations you've had with Jeanne Boylene on your talk pages), 2. A little gnoming and 3. to join in the "fun" of drama. I get that you desire consistency, and we all want that consistency to follow our own beliefs, but I really do get the impression that you like being in the middle of these issues. A way to be seen, so to speak. I get involved in far too many disputes myself, but man, I hate it. They actively take away editing time, and it drains me of the will to write for a while afterward. For you, you really need to let that #3 go, because the consequence is, as you say, permaban. Resolute 20:32, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

1) I've no problem with cutting down on socializing - btw: myself & Jeanne, are no longer on 'speaking' terms. 2) After today, gnoming will be my concern & 3) gnomes prefer to be left alone, thus after today I'm looking forward to peace & quiet. GoodDay (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2012 (UTC)

Frank Slide

Hi, I note that you reverted my change to population numbers for Frank, AB circa 1912 due to a lack of source; however, the figure I replaced also was unsourced. I am a member of the Crowsnest Heritage Initiative and the Crowsnest Historical Society, and recently compiled an unpublished paper on the evolution of Frank betwen 1903 and 1917. I cannot cite my own research under Wikipedia rules, and in any event I did not think it an important enough fact (should we cite everything?); I just wanted to make the article more accurate. I suppose I could revert your reversion back to 1000 as uncited too, but that would be silly. Ian mckenzie (talk) 04:56, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your response on my Talk page. Though much has been written on Crowsnest Pass history, I have found that many of the finer details have been unresearched. I will send you my paper - population figures are in footnote 10 - and you can evaluate whether it is appropriate to use it as an unpublished source for peak population or any other information you might find helpful for the article. Main page appearance: Calgary Stampede

This is a note to let the main editors of Calgary Stampede know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on July 6, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 6, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

A cowboy hangs onto a bucking bull while a rodeo clown watches.

The Calgary Stampede is an annual rodeo, exhibition and festival held every July in Calgary, Canada. The ten-day event attracts over one million visitors per year and features a parade, midway, stage shows, concerts, agricultural competitions, chuckwagon racing and First Nations exhibitions. The first Stampede was held in 1912, organized by American promoter Guy Weadick and supported by four area ranchers as a celebration of their lifestyle. A second Stampede was held in 1919 and it became an annual event in 1923 when it merged with the Calgary Industrial Exhibition. It is one of Canada's largest festivals and has become synonymous with Calgary's identity. It is a significant tourist attraction for the city which takes on a party atmosphere: businesses decorate their buildings in cowboy and western themes and hundreds of community events are held throughout the city. The Stampede is one of the premier events on the professional rodeo and chuckwagon circuits. Both are televised nationally in Canada and offer one of the largest prize funds in each sport. Some events, particularly chuckwagon racing, are controversial and have become the target of international criticism by animal welfare groups. (more...)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at [email protected]. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:30, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

CFL / Sundin

I should have a chance to get to the Grey Cup article and proof it, I am not sure if I will have a chance to get Sundin up to snuff. Most of my editing right now serves a dual purpose with stuff I am working on in real life. I'll give it a shot, though. Canada Hky (talk) 16:49, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

NHL team templates

Why are you removing all that important information from NHL team templates? Stanley Cup wins, etc. are IMPORTANT parts of any team's history..."this is not a history list"? You're not even an admin, but you're claiming to decide what is and isn't Wikipedia policy? Tom Danson (talk) 16:20, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

First off he is an admin, and secondly, navboxes are supposed to include the most important information, not every remotely related bit of information. Basically any links has to be able to answer yes to "Where is the user most likely going to go next after reading this page?" If a user isn't most likely going to go to that page then it shouldn't be in a navbox. Because there are already links to the list page that includes all the wins, we don't also add the individual wins because that would be redundant and cause overcrowding. -DJSasso (talk) 16:28, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
I am an admin, but that is irrelevant to a content decision. And your question provides your answer: because navboxes are not history lists. They are meant for navigation. And the navboxes used on the baseball project, for instance, are complete shit because of the overabundence of poorly thought out links. Certainly, Stanley Cups are important. That is why they are mentioned in the lead and infobox of every team article, and why they figure prominently in the seasons articles. And, of course, the navbox links to both of those as high value links. Adding rows to the navboxes to re-state the same offers only low value links that cheapen the entire navbox. Resolute 19:32, 25 July 2012 (UTC)
Besides, we already have seasons templates. Resolute 20:34, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Adam Oates

The GA nomination is now in the hands of the reviewers. If they choose to disregard my concerns, then so be it. GoodDay (talk) 20:45, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

And? You chose to post a blatantly WP:POINTy complaint because you are upset over the fact that consensus went against you. If you want your Wikipedia career to end in a blaze of glory GoodDay, go right ahead. Just do me a favour and don't waste my time in the process. Resolute 20:51, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I'm not interested in edit-warring at those 4 articles & have no intention to. I'm even less interested in having anything to do with Djsasso (which is the primary reason why I stopped my reverts at Pavel Bure, Joe Sakic, Adam Oates & Mats Sundin articles). An interaction ban between myself & him, would be prefferable. GoodDay (talk) 20:58, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Dude, you have already edit warred on those articles - against several editors, and the fact that you stopped is the only reason I haven't left a formal warning on your talk page in a prelude to requesting a block. Trying to deflect blame to DJSasso for your own actions is rather weak. You don't need an interaction ban, you need to learn when to let things go. Resolute 21:04, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
I have let things go. I'm no longer trying to 'delete' Hall of Fame, 2012 from those 4 infoboxes. However, I still disagree with them being there, so I shall continue to oppose the GA nomination-in-question 'until' it's passed or Oates is inducted to the Hall. When Oates becomes a member of the HHOF, then the article will be more accurate & worthy of GA status. GoodDay (talk) 21:07, 28 July 2012 (UTC)
Changing direction from edit warring across four articles to making pointy comments and blaming every else but yourself for your actions is not letting things go. Quite the opposite, actually. And I have better things to do than listen to you repeatedly post the same stupid objections to that which you personally do not like. Your objection is made in bad faith and is therefore rejected as irrelevant. But I will reiterate, GoodDay. Don't waste my time, because I won't waste any putting the final nail in your Wikipedia coffin if you choose to do so. Resolute 21:16, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

FWIW, I removed my objection to that article's GA nomination. GoodDay (talk) 18:24, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Appreciated, thank you. Resolute 18:54, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

GoodDay Arbitration case

  • I saw the Arbitration case on GoodDay, and am here to provide some new facts about diacritics.
  • It is often easy to find which rendering of a word or name is most searched for, by using Google Insights for Search like this (note: sports category) or like this. Since articles are unlikely to be read if people don't find them when they search, this is surely one of the strongest WP:COMMONSENSE reasons for generally not using diacritics in English Wikipedia article titles.
  • These tennis examples come from discussions related to tennis articles here and here. The issue of diacritics is still controversial, and discussion is still continuing. You are welcome to include the above in your evidence if you wish. Some Wikipedia politicians are trying to get all people who oppose diacritics banned.
  • This is why I think that knowledge of Internet research techniques should be a critical part of making verifiable, neutral POV, commonsense decisions—about which article title is most appropriate, and whether diacritics should be used in article titles, for example.
  • (Here I tried to add links to make the importance of research and the "how" (process) clear, but was repeatedly reverted.) LittleBen (talk) 02:59, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
While your opinions are all perfectly valid, they are also irrelevant to GoodDay's arbitration case which, aside from having concluded, was about his behavioural issues and not whether or not it is appropriate to use diacritics. I will note, however, that your first argument is irrelevant, as Wikipedia's use of redirects means that anyone who searches for the non-diacritical version of an individual's name will still arrive at the right article, even when it includes diacritics in the title. Beyond that, I don't care enough to get involved further in the debates. Resolute 03:15, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
But Google doesn't index redirects, so switching to diacritics in an article title (when most searches are without diacritics) is likely to make an article drop in Google's rankings. If it's not found then it won't be read. LittleBen (talk) 03:23, 29 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, clearly you over estimate your own knowledge of internet (re)search techniques, as the Wikipedia articles of both Jiří Hudler and Jaromír Jágr, to use two examples, are the very first Google hits, even though I searched without using the accent marks. Your argument becomes less persuasive as time goes on. Resolute 14:59, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

Season Page Questions

After seeing that you have 3 articles at GAC right now it motivated me to finish improving a couple of articles I was working on (and somewhat abandoned) to see if I could get them up to GA. I was working on both the Blue Jackets and Capitals season articles from last season (mainly in response to this line from you "I also discovered that I am just about the only person routinely writing non-biographical GAs/FAs" and djsasso (I think) calling the season articles slightly more than a stats dump). I'm about done with Columbus, but I wanted to ask your opinion about a couple of things, since you've written several season GAs.

  1. I know I need to add some prose about the draft, but looking at some of your Flames pages you have prose in the transactions section, I cover most of the major transactions in the body of the pages. Should I mention some of the other transactions like the more minor signings or some of the players lost through free agency or leave it without prose?
  2. On the Columbus article I tried to emulate the leads you used on the Flames pages. I mentioned "clock gate" in the lead because I thought it was one of the more interesting things to happen to the Jackets throughout the year, but I'm concerned it might be putting undue weight on the indecent. Do you think you might be able to take a look at the lead? I always seem to struggle at putting one together.
  3. Also could you maybe take a quick look to make sure that I haven't left something out that needs to be in season article GAs (not a full review or copy edit I know I still need to go though and do some CE)(still working on the Caps page, needs playoffs, draft, lead, referencing, etc.).

Any advice/assistance you could give would be greatly appreciated. No big deal if you don't have the time. Cheers --Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 20:42, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Couldn't help noticing this comment and had to say those pages are looking great! Now that is what I like to see in a season page. -DJSasso (talk) 22:02, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. They are looking very good so far! Some thoughts:
  1. I don't really have a set format on the transactions stuff. I just go with what feels right. In 2010–11 Calgary Flames season, I put the trades in the season body, and focused on the contract signings in the transactions section. The year before, I made note of the Phaneuf and Jokinen trades in the season body, but expanded on their background in transactions. I would say to format it in a way that makes sense to you.
  2. Given how much of a waste this season was for Columbus, I'd say that clockgate was probably a more notable incident of the season. I often like to add major milestones and awards, but other than Prospal's 1000th game, the Jackets really didn't do much. Oi.
  3. I'm not seeing anything obvious missing. You will have to complete some bare references on the player signings, but based on the Jackets article, I'd say you have a good handle on it.
And good to see I've inspired someone! This reminds me, I need to polish off the Flames article for last year and get it nominated. I'll also need to do another FA/GA/FL stats run... I know I'm catching up to the Canucks! ;) Maybe after I finish with the Grey Cup. Cheers! Resolute 22:17, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the the responses and the CE on the lead, this will help a lot. I know your catching the Canucks, it wouldn't surprise me if you pulled ahead. Man we better get it in gear.--Mo Rock...Monstrous (leech44) 00:06, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I think rather than "rather weak" you're being kind, and mean "complete and utter cobblers". Awesome! Thank you so much for reviewing the article. I'm very pleased that it passed. Since I nominated it, I've found some additional resources that I intend to use to expand the article a bit more. I'll then send it to peer review and FA review hopefully by the end of the year. I'll let you know when those happen in case you want to (and have time to) help review it further. Thanks. I was actually kind of concerned that it may not have had enough reviewers, forcing me to bring it back to FAC, again. But I'm glad its done; it took far to long to get finished. Now onto the other ones. Already have a bunch of stuff for Charlie Gardiner, so that should be easy enough to flush out to FA status. After that it gets difficult. I think with some creative work I can get Frank McGee to pass, even at the short length it's currently at. And I'm thinking of bring up Dan Bain to FAC shortly, as I think it may be close; however since you were the primary editor to the article, I'd prefer to have your blessing first. But it's getting there; just got to keep at it. Kaiser matias (talk) 21:57, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Excellent. But in the short term I should probably focus on finishing my university work. However if I had to say, I'd probably look at nominating an article sometime in December, though don't quote me on that. Of course, if you were willing to do so, I'd definitley do all I could to help. Kaiser matias (talk) 22:19, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
Of course now is when I get my request for a copy of Trail of the Stanley Cup, Vol. 1 in through the university library. Hard to put that thing down, even with my coursework to deal with. So much information in that book, it makes me want to find an extra $400 laying around to purchase my own edition. Kaiser matias (talk) 06:16, 6 October 2012 (UTC)

1987 Giro

Hey there,

Well first off, thanks for reviewing the article! I fixed everything that you outlined, I tried my best with the replacing the stage usage in the overview section. I replaced some of them with "leg", "day", or "day of racing." There were just some that I couldn't replace since I felt that it wouldn't be as clear and stage would suffice. That was my only real problem with what you specified in the fixing section. So I guess check my revisions and tell me what you think. Thanks. WT:MP

Explain, please, how you think that your comments at WT:MP this evening have in any way been consistent with the expectation that administrators are "to lead by example and to behave in a respectful, civil manner in their interactions with others." Kevin McE (talk) 19:28, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

I am not going to walk on eggshells because you have a thin skin. People started whining about "OMGZ PROMOTION!", and I commented on how utterly lacking in merit that was. In the end, my comment was perfectly accurate and appropriate. We do have periodic whinefests on WT:MP because people are aghast that promoted content doesn't always fit their own private beliefs of right or wrong. In this case, the argument that it is wrong to use a photograph that passed FPC because it was professionally done is so ridiculous that it doesn't even merit a serious response. My advice? Stop making moral judgements on what gets posted to the main page and you'll stop being disappointed. Resolute 20:59, 4 November 2012 (UTC)

Personal attack

What the f*ck is wrong with you man ? Can you not go one day without being a complete a$$hat ? Your personal attack on the Wikipedia talk:Canadian Wikipedians' notice board was completely unacceptable. If you pull that sh*t again I will report you. UrbanNerd (talk) 04:34, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

The irony of your post is choking on its hypocrisy. Before you run off threatening to "report" me, I suggest you read WP:BOOMERANG. Certainly these comments won't be doing you any favours, especially given your block log and history of always assuming the worst in anyone you disagree with. That, incidentally, is also quite revealing. Resolute 04:45, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Grey Cup

This is a note to let the main editors of Grey Cup know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 25, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 25, 2012.

The Grey Cup, championship trophy of the Canadian Football League

The Grey Cup is the name of both the championship game of the Canadian Football League (CFL) and the trophy awarded to the victorious team. It is contested between the winners of the CFL's East and West Divisional playoffs and is one of Canadian television's largest annual sporting events. It was commissioned by Governor General Albert Grey, 4th Earl Grey, to serve as the national championship of Canadian football. The trophy has been broken several times, stolen twice, held for ransom and survived a fire. The University of Toronto won the inaugural title in 1909. Typically played in late November, inclement weather has periodically impacted the Grey Cup game, notably the 1962 "Fog Bowl" when the contest was postponed due to a lack of visibility. The Toronto Argonauts have the most Grey Cup victories with 15, while the Edmonton Eskimos formed the longest dynasty with five consecutive titles between 1978 and 1982. Competition for the Grey Cup has been limited exclusively to Canadian teams, except for a brief period in the 1990s which saw the Baltimore Stallions become the only American Grey Cup champion in 1995. The 100th Grey Cup is being held in Toronto in 2012. (Full article...)

A request

Howdy Resolute. I wish to cash in on a favour I asked from you, months ago. Though I can't stop Djsasso from following me around (see Steven Zhang's talkpage) to discussions that don't involve him, I do prefer that he stop contacting me or commenting on my talkpage. Would you ask him to 'get off' my back, please? GoodDay (talk) 18:01, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Actually the discussion did involve me just so you know. You have been a massive disruption to the Wikipedia and have wasted a great many people's time. Including mine which makes me involved when you are asking to be let of a ban that keeps you from wasting even more time. Dan specifically asked for reasons from someone who you had issues with in the past to give reasons why you shouldn't be let off of it. I didn't follow you to that page I have that page watch listed. If you want people to stop objecting to you and your actions then stop acting objectionable it really is that simple. -DJSasso (talk) 18:23, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
That being said, as I said over at that discussion I was only going to make the one comment there and that was it. If it ends up going to AN for an official request to remove the topic ban then I will likely comment there. But I am done over at Steve's page. -DJSasso (talk) 18:35, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps (in future) an interaction ban will be required, to get the message across to him. That's alot of drama that I wish to avoid, of course. GoodDay (talk) 18:41, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

No offence, GoodDay, but it is hard to accept that you wish to avoid drama while continuing to exhibit the same mentality that led to your two topic bans. Now, you are not topic banned at all from things related to that ongoing idiotic Pedro vs. Peter argument, or from adding or removing upcoming US senator/representative succession boxes, but surely you realize you are showing the same behaviours there that has led to those bans, and to our own disputes over HHOF banners in infoboxes. I'm not going to get in the middle of your dispute with DJSasso for the same reasons I chose not to comment on these other disputes, which I did notice on your talk page. Besides, he's obviously aware of your request, so there is no need for me to do anything. Resolute 20:54, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
I appreciate your choosing 'not' to get involved in those other disputes. I wish Djsasso would follow your lead. GoodDay (talk) 20:57, 20 December 2012 (UTC)

Finished up the GA review, after going through and fixing some minor things myself. Let me know if there are any questions, or once everything has been addressed. Canada Hky (talk) 02:22, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. Lately I've been translating this article into french and came across a few things which bother me. Should I adress them directly to you or should I write them somewhere else? Thanks. --Tiouic (talk) 19:56, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Feel free to ask me. If I can't help, I might be able to direct you to someone who can. Resolute 20:36, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Well, here is the list:
Senior
After one year of Senior C hockey, 14-year-old James moved up to the Toronto Islanders in 1980.
That year she was 15 going on 16.
After one year of Senior C hockey, ... to win the McTeer Cup.
This all section leaves to think she took part to the 1982 women's nationals with the Islanders. However the title was won by the Agincourts Canadians [3].
The 1993 championship capped off a season in which James scored 40 goals and 70 points in 28 games.
The stats table further down gives these number for the following season.
After one final season, James retired from competitive hockey in 2000.
The Aeros were NWHL and Abby Hoffman Cup champions that year. Maybe a bit more can be said (I plan to work on this one in the next few days).
An eight-time scoring champion and six-time most valuable player
Only seven scoring titles and one MVP's are mentionned in the article.
3 Nations Cup
In the lead and in the stats table, it says she ended her international carrer in 2000 while in the text it says 1999. The table also says she took part to the 1996, 1999 and 2000 3NCs (Legends of Hockey gives 1996, 1998 and 1999, the Cup taking place usually between october and december). Going through Hockey Canada web site, I found her name for 1996 and 1999 but not for 1998 (p.8) or 2000.

--Tiouic (talk) 21:08, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Umm, I did respond to this a couple days ago, but it seems I forgot to save my response. Sorry about that! A couple of the things you pointed out were definitely errors. James' age when first at senior C, for instance. I'm pretty sure the source did say 14, but that is obviously impossible given her birthdate. The part with the 1982 women's nationals is tricky. The source definitely says she was in that game, but given Agincourt is Toronto, the Canadian Press probably just used the city name. It leaves unanswered whether it was actually the Islanders in that game (making Hockey Canada wrong) or if James was loaned to Agincourt for the tournament (far more likely, but I couldn't find a source noting it). I can't say, so I can't modify. On the 3 Nations Cup, whoever did the table made an error there, likely because the HHOF site used "1998-99" season notation for tournaments, and whoever added the table simply assumed that meant the tournament was played in 2000, not 1999. I've corrected these things. Thank you for noticing them! Resolute 14:59, 9 January 2013 (UTC)
I just put a few things about the 1999-00 season. I guess nothing more can be added for the moment. Thank you very much for your time. --Tiouic (talk) 21:28, 10 January 2013 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks for catching the issues, and for adding to the article! Resolute 21:30, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

2000 Summer Olympic & Commonwealth Games Sports Calendar

I have noticed Resolute that there is no sports Calendar for the 2000 Sdyney Olympic Games and also for the 2002 Commonwealth Games that were held in Manchester and I wonder if it was possible to create one at all? All the other Olympic Games bewteen 1960-2012 have a sports calendar apart from 2000. Also is it possible to create sports calendars for Olympic Games pior to 1956 and also for past winter olympic games as well. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 13:56, 13 January 2013 (UTC))

If this exists on other articles, then I'm sure it could be created for those games as well. You would need only to have the sources available to do so. Resolute 23:29, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I dont know how to do this thou otherwise I would have already have done so Resolute. Please can you point me in the right direction. (MOTORAL1987 (talk) 16:43, 14 January 2013 (UTC))

Thanks. May actually get too Moores myself when I'm in the mood. I remember him during his Oilers days, was a bit surprised he didn't have an article. – Connormah (talk) 02:51, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Hah! Nice! Resolute 14:21, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Hm another if you're interested is Brian Shaw (ice hockey) - looks like a really interesting story (apparently he left the Oilers WHA job because he became so stressed when they were losing that he lost 30 pounds). Was going to get to him but I'm afraid I underestimated the amount available on him - it'll take a while to piece together everything. He was later the (I think first?) owner of the Portland Winterhawks. – Connormah (talk) 14:55, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
I'm in the middle of that myself. I completely underestimated how many in-depth stories were written about Gary Suter. At least it will make for a fairly easy run to GA! Resolute 17:57, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Oh nice. I may also have an image for Suter coming up for you in that case. We'll see. – Connormah (talk) 19:19, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Well that would be useful! Resolute 20:39, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Wonderful, thanks! I was waiting on Washington to come to Calgary next season to get a pic. Thanks Resolute 20:52, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Hah, well I guess there's the chance he doesn't last that long as HC in Washington, I'm pretty happy I was able to get this one. – Connormah (talk) 21:51, 28 January 2013 (UTC)
Hm, would this possibly work as an image for Sam LoPresti, under PD-Canada-photo? – Connormah (talk) 03:36, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Probably PD-Canada, yes, but unless we knew for certain the photo was taken in Canada, we can't claim PD in the US. Since we likely cannot prove that claim, it would have to be considered fair use. Resolute 03:42, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I realize that, but casting aspersions on Nug's motivations isn't going to help things. You need to realize that the Baltic states disputes is easily as volatile than the BISE arguments. You really need to be on your best behaviour in this arena. Resolute 02:58, 2 February 2013 (UTC)
Nug's recent activity, has got be seeing red. I'll have to step back from this one :( GoodDay (talk) 21:05, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I wonder, how much longer will the community put up with Jaan & Nug's Last wordisom & grinding down attempts. GoodDay (talk) 15:23, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

It behooves me to point out that if this goes to ANI or some real form of dispute resolution, your participation likely won't be held as being any better. For my part, I'd be happy to accept Jaan's suggestion that this be considered no consensus and the articles left at their originating state. Setting the Komarov article back to "Narva, Estonia" is a small price to pay to put this nonsense to rest. I am, however, only one voice in this debate. Resolute 15:39, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
I don't know why editors continue to respond to each other in that thread, since it seems evident that no participant has been able to summarize a consensus view without facing objections from the others, and so additional opinions are needed from different editors, which is only going to happen in a broader venue. isaacl (talk)
It went to broader venues and the opinions there were more of the same. This happens with contentious topics, sometimes there just isn't a nice solution. I know you always like to try and jump in the middle of these things and be "reasonable" but that often just doesn't work. Sometimes it even makes matters worse. (ie broader venues often bring even more views making it even harder to come to a conclusion). But its nice that you try. -DJSasso (talk) 15:56, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
I don't think wanting to take to a broader venue "makes things worse" (though I know that's not quite what you meant there). At worst, it leaves a no consensus discussion still at no consensus. Sure it wastes time, but that's pretty much the definition of Wikipedia.  ;) I'd rather go through the exercise and end up agreeing to disagree than to keep the discussion small and insular and end up at DR where a lot of people would be facing sanctions, simply because it is related to the Baltic states. Resolute 16:02, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Though I haven't checked back recently, most (though not all) of the conversation on the other page was still among the same participants; it would have been nice to get opinions from those with lots of experience with biographies, as this type of issue surely has come up before. It's possible that the back-and-forth between the disputants may have unfortunately discouraged new participants. I just don't like to see all this time wasted in an unproductive manner (and filling up the WT:HOCKEY page on a matter that is of only tangential interest to the project), particularly when with a bit of will, the parties could channel their efforts towards actually building a consensus. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be happening. isaacl (talk) 16:28, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
If some of you, want to sacrifice historical accuracy for revionism? then go for it. GoodDay (talk) 17:08, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Sorry, after reviewing Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons/Noticeboard/Archive170#Leo Komarov and others, I see there were a number of other people who offered opinions, though it was mostly overwhelmed by the verbiage written by participants from the thread on WT:HOCKEY. Unfortunately, I guess there wasn't anyone available who could share experiences from past cases. isaacl (talk) 17:28, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Believe it or not, as inattentive as I am, I just now noticed that you promoted 2008 Summer Olympics to GA last month. Thanks much for all your help; the article is greatly improved for your input! - Evanh2008 (talk|contribs) 22:57, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

You are subject of an ANI report

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. --Nug (talk) 02:06, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

The page is now at RFPP since Nug continued to edit war on the page. Hopefully an uninvolved admin will come to the same conclusions you did. -DJSasso (talk) 19:57, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
The article-in-question, has been protected in the status that Nug opposes. I fear he will move into battle mode over this. GoodDay (talk) 20:30, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
He already is in Battle mode which is why it was protected. He has a long block log, if he continues it is likely he will get blocked again or worse. Just let him hang himself GoodDay, that is all you can do. -DJSasso (talk) 20:59, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
I would echo that advice dude. Given your history, getting in edit wars over anything Baltic states is a good way to get site banned. Resolute 23:14, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
You're both correct, of course. I must practice better self-control. GoodDay (talk) 23:28, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Did the nom, co-credited you, is here: Articles created/expanded on February 4. Will see if I can add anything further tomorrow. Thanks again! Echoedmyron (talk) 23:22, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
A reviewer had a look and a comment, I'm confused by what they wrote. Any idea where they are getting this from? Echoedmyron (talk) 19:50, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Reviewer is now focusing on the fact that the word "rights" doesn't appear in the refs about how Minnesota came to acquire Heindl from Boston - completely ignoring the fact that this has nothing to do with the proposed hook. I'm not sure what is up here, if it's just an editor throwing their weight around, or what. At this rate, the promotion is going to linger unless a more reasonable editor gets involved. I don't have the time or inclination to debate the individual points you brought up, but you have eyes and a brain, and you know as well as I do that what I wrote was factual. The sources confirmed it. But I understand that as an admin you are obligated to follow all guidelines religiously. ChakaKongtalk 18:30, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Bowness, Forest Lawn and Montgomery

Hi Resolute, I have started a discussion here about splitting the respective neighbourhood articles for the above into separate articles for the neighbourhoods and for the former towns. Looking at histories, it was you who moved Forest Lawn, Alberta to Forest Lawn, Calgary. Your consideration and input would be appreciated. Cheers, Hwy43 (talk) 07:30, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

Bill Masterton

Hi, me again, still doing some translating in french, this time it's Bill Masterton. I've done some further research and found a few things which can be of use to you. Please check references number 3, 4, 11, 26, 33, 34, 46, 47 from the french page. I've added a few others about team results or stats but I don't know if you'd be also interested. I have a couple of questions for you:

  • First about his date of birth. The NHL website says August 13th while Hockey DB says the 16th. The only other source I found which is not a statistical website is my ref number 3 saying the 16th.
  • Second about his time in the USHL. Apart from the HHOF website, I've found no other source saying that he played for Rochester but I found an article (my ref number 31) saying he spent two years with St. Paul. Vintage Minnesota Hockey has a page about the Mustangs but doesn't mention Masterton among the team's notable players.

Once again, I would like to thank you for your work. --Tiouic (talk) 20:32, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks! And interesting links. I'll see what I can put into the English version. On Masterton's birth date, Hockey's Greatest Tragedies also gives August 13. In this case, I am trusting the NHL's word. As to his USHL play, I am inclined to trust your Dallas Morning News link. I'll make the change to note that he spent two years in St. Paul. Cheers! Baltic blowups

I'll refrain from alterting infoboxes, until a settlement is reached. However, you'll have to keep an eye out for Jaan & the IP's altering of infoboxes aswell. In otherwords, place a freeze on all Baltic bio infoboxes, 1940 to 1991 era :) GoodDay (talk) 14:58, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

Jack Darragh

I see that you removed Jack Darragh from the List of ice hockey players who died during their playing career, saying he retired before he died. I don't think that is accurate. According to Hockey Hall of Fame, "Darragh took the entire 1921-22 season off, but when he returned to the Senators the next year, it was as though nothing had changed. The Sens beat first the Millionaires and then the Edmonton Eskimos to win their third Stanley Cup in four years. Darragh played one more full season in the NHL, but in the summer of 1924 he succumbed to peritonitis."[5] It says nothing about him retiring. On another of their pages they list him as one of the players "who had their careers tragically cut short."[6]. If he had retired, his death would not have cut his career short. So there seems to be good evidence that he should be on the list. 99.192.95.110 (talk) 04:16, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Hmm. I don't have the book handy at the moment, but I am pretty sure Players says he retired after the 1924 season, and indeed, his Wikipedia article says the same. That was the basis for my removal. But while Legends of Hockey has been known to make errors, the story on his death seems to support it. Feel free to revert my removal, it may well have been in error. Cheers! Resolute 04:53, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for linking to the obituary. When I did a google news search I got no results. Strange. As for reverting the removal, the page is locked so only logged in editors can change it, so I'll have to leave it to you to do. 99.192.95.110 (talk) 06:25, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Done. I've also lifted the protection on that page. I think it was meant to be temporary anyway. And Google has made newspaper archive searches damn difficult since it shut down it's archiving program. You can go to http://news.google.com/archivesearch and enter your search into the pop-up box, or http://news.google.com/newspapers and either search the archive that way, or look up individual newspapers directly. Cheers! Resolute 14:27, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Wasn't actually meant to be temporary cause it was a magnet for issues for awhile, but at this point it can be removed as I am sure the issue has died down in the last year. :) -DJSasso (talk) 14:29, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Well, temporary in the sense that it's been over a year since that edit war. One would hope people have moved on.  ;) Resolute 16:06, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Given you reviewed Copa Libertadores, I wondered if you're too busy or can help reviewing another article on a big soccer tournament, FIFA Club World Cup. Thanks. igordebraga 15:24, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Interaction ban in the making?

I don't want to see you posting on my talkpage again. You're not welcomed there, anymore. GoodDay (talk) 09:35, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

You don't get to declare interaction bans because you don't like the warnings you receive. I already don't post on your talk page for the most part, but will continue to do so if your actions warrant a comment in response. Resolute 16:51, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Resolute, this is just a heads up that I made a few edits to your comments that I don't think you'll find controversial. I know it's generally frowned upon, but I did some c/e and also fixed the header because it was messing with the page layout.--v/r - TP 14:54, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

I have recently created the categories and please KEEP THE CATEGORIES!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!! Ashbeckjonathan 13:05, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Deleting categories

But why are these categories: Super Bowl, Pro Bowl, Stanley Cup Finals, NHL All-Star Game, NBA Finals, NBA All-Star Games are considered for deletion? I don't get it! The other categories Category:Women's National Basketball Association broadcasters, Category:Women's college basketball announcers in the United States,Category:NFL Europe broadcasters, Category:United Football League broadcasters are very especial and the basketball ones I created have something to do with Category:Basketball announcers and the others have something to do with Category:American football announcers! I even created articles Category:Boston Celtics broadcasters, Category:High school football announcers in the United States and Category:High school basketball announcers in the United States! I still don't understand that these articles I created yesterday, two days ago, and last week are considered for deletion! Ashbeckjonathan 13:34, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Understand

That makes perfect sense. The other thing is why do you have Leonardo Da Vinci quote on there? Ashbeckjonathan 12:56, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

I happened to be reading over the article, and I noticed what appears to be a small error. In the Venues section it mentions that McMahon was the first venue to host both the opening and closing ceremonies in 22 years. However there was no Olympics held 22 years prior to 1988. I don't have access to the Calgary Herald edition used as a source, but I figured you would know what the proper year is. Kaiser matias (talk) 20:42, 5 April 2013 (UTC)
