Hi, Deckya

Thanks for your new article about the Brown Spotted Cod. Can you double-check the scientific name in the article that you provided, Promicrops lanceolarus? Fishbase and Google haven't heard of that species, although there is a Promicrops lanceolatus, and the current valid name in Fishbase is Epinephelus lanceolatus. Wikipedia has an article, Giant grouper, with that scientific name, so your new article may be a duplication of that one. Fishbase doesn't mention the common name "Brown Spotted Cod" for this species, although it calls the fish the Giant Grouper.

Thanks for your contributions. Neil916 (Talk) 07:32, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again,

I noticed the other article you created. Are you sure you're not referring to Epinephelus coioides? That's what Fishbase lists as the fish with the common name "estuary cod" or "Orange-spotted grouper", and the photo looks more like the description you've provided (though I can't find any reference to "greasy cod" or "spotted river cod"). Here's a link: [1]. Thanks. Neil916 (Talk) 07:44, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I was unaware that they are unheard of, i got them both out of The Australian Fisherman's Companion by Harold Vaughan, it's an old book so i guess they could be out of date scientific names.

Notability of Samantha Steele

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Samantha Steele, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. --ROGER TALK 07:08, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
