Chandler A. Great (born August 9, 1994),[4][5] professionally known as Turbo, is an American record producer and songwriter. He is best known for his production with Drake, Morgan Wallen, Big Sean, Travis Scott, Gunna, Young Thug, and Lil Baby.
Turbo, born Chandler A. Great , is an grammy nominated American record producer[[1]], songwriter, and executive best known for his work with prominent hip-hop artists such as Gunna, Drake[[2]],Lil Baby and Travis Scott.
Rising out of Atlanta’s influential trap scene, Turbo quickly became recognized for his melodic yet hard-hitting production style and his signature tag, “Run dat back Turbo,” which has become synonymous with modern Southern rap. As the founder of The Playmakers production collective, he has played a key role in shaping the sound of projects like Gunna’s DS4 (Drip Season 4Ever)[[3]] (2022) and WUNNA [[4]] (2020), both of which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Beyond his production credits, Turbo has served as an executive producer on several high-profile albums and signed a global co-publishing deal with Warner Chappell Music in 2020[[5]]. His work continues to bridge trap, pop, and country influences, establishing him as one of the most versatile and influential producers of his generation.
Career
[edit]In 2017, Turbo produced several songs on We Want Smoke, a compilation album by artists signed to T.I.'s Grand Hustle Records.[6] He executive produced Drip Harder,[7] a collaborative mixtape by Gunna and Lil Baby released in 2018, and is the solo producer on four songs of the mixtape,[8] including "Never Recover" and "Close Friends" which were certified Platinum[9][10] and "Drip Too Hard" which was certified Diamond.[11] He also produced "Slimed In" on Young Thug's compilation album Slime Language, released in 2018.[12] That same year, he produced on Gunna's third mixtape Drip Season 3.[13] He also founded own his record production collective, The Playmakers.[14][15]
In June 2019, he signed a co-publishing deal with Warner/Chappell Music.[16] In 2020, he released Quarantine Clean with Young Thug and Gunna, which makes it the first song where Turbo is credited as lead artist.
In January 2022 Turbo served as a key producer on Gunna's 2022 chart-topping album DS4EVER (Drip Season 4Ever), contributing to its polished trap sound and commercial success, Producing 5 records on this ablum Turbo was a key factor in its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200." [[6]] DS4Ever debuted atop the US Billboard 200 with 150,000 album-equivalent units comprising 193.5 million on-demand streams and 4,000 pure sales, making it Gunna's second number-one album. The album notably blocked The Weeknd's album Dawn FM from the top spot by approximately 2,300 units.
In June 2023 As executive producer of Gunna’s 2023 album A Gift & a Curse, Turbo played a central role in crafting the project’s sonic identity and guiding its overall creative vision. The album, released without any featured artists, marked a significant moment for Gunna, both artistically and personally, following a tumultuous period in the public eye. Turbo’s production approach emphasized emotional resonance through sparse, moody instrumentation, blending atmospheric melodies with sharp 808s and crisp hi-hats to underscore the album’s themes of isolation, reflection, and resilience.
In addition to producing several standout tracks himself, Turbo coordinated with his close-knit group of producers The Playmakers [[7]] to ensure consistency across the album. His influence extended beyond beat-making, shaping the sequencing, transitions, and tone to deliver a cohesive body of work. Turbo’s hands-on involvement not only reinforced his longstanding creative chemistry with Gunna but also demonstrated his growth as a producer capable of leading high-level, introspective rap projects to critical and commercial acclaim.
In January 2024,"Bachelor" – Turbo reunited with Gunna for his second single "Bachelor" a track that samples James Blake's "Do You Ever?" and features a luxurious music video directed by Spike Jordan[[8]]. The song received positive reviews for its elegant production and Gunna's smooth delivery [[9]]
January 2024, musician Jamal Britt filed a lawsuit against Turbo and Warner Chappell Music due to misuse of Turbo's iconic "Run that back, Turbo" producer tag which was recorded by Britt, noting that he "was never given notice that his voice was being used, never properly credited for his contributions to the songs in question and was never compensated from any of the royalty payments, profits, or other income garnered from the exploitation of his recorded voice".[17]
Survivor's RemorseRoddy Ricch[[10]] Released on May 31, 2024, this track marked Roddy Ricch's return after nearly two years. Turbo co-produced the song alongside Terrace Martin and Omar Grand, blending atmospheric trap beats with a powerful choir bridge. The song interpolated Kelly Clarkson's "Me,"[[11]] showcasing Turbo's versatility in merging hip-hop with pop elements.[[12]]
Executive Production on One of Wun Release May 10, 2024 – Gunna[[13]] Turbo played a pivotal role in shaping Gunna's 2024 album One of Wun, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. His executive production ensured a cohesive sound that resonated with fans and critics alike. [[14]]
June 2024 Whiskey Whiskey The collaboration between Moneybagg Yo and Morgan Wallen on the track "Whiskey Whiskey," released on June 14, 2024, marked a significant crossover between hip-hop and country music. Produced by Turbo & Charlie Handsoome the song was the fourth and final single from Moneybagg Yo's fifth studio album, Speak Now. It debuted at No. 2 on the Rap Digital Song Sales chart, selling over 7,300 copies in its first tracking week, just behind Eminem's "Houdini" . The song also entered the Hot Rap Songs chart at No. 4 and peaked at No. 3 on the Rap Streaming Songs chart, highlighting its strong performance across digital platforms. Turbo expressed interest in producing country records, collaborating with artists like Moneybagg Yo and Morgan Wallen. He highlighted the limitless possibilities in music, emphasizing the influence of platforms like TikTok and the internet in bridging genre gaps

September 2024 Turbo took on the role of executive producer for SleazyWorld Go's debut album, More Than a Shooter. The collaboration marked a significant creative partnership, blending Turbo's signature production style with SleazyWorld Go's unique voice. The duo spent a week together in Sleazy's home studio in Kansas City, fostering an authentic connection that led to the creation of 10-12 new songs in just a few days. This intense, hands-on approach ensured a cohesive sound throughout the album, with Turbo's influence evident in each track.[[15]] The album showcases a range of styles, from the high-energy "Who the Who's" to the introspective "Depression 2," highlighting SleazyWorld Go's growth as a lyricist and artist. Turbo Day Carnival In 2024, Turbo hosted the inaugural carnival in Atlanta, providing free school supplies and food to the community. This event highlighted his commitment to giving back and supporting local youth.[[17]]
March 2025 Turbo Wins 10 million dollar lawsuit against Jamal Britt. Grammy nominated producer Turbo secured a decisive legal victory in a $10 million lawsuit brought by Georgia-based musician Jamal Britt, who alleged ownership and authorship of Turbo’s signature “Run dat back Turbo” producer tag. The court unequivocally ruled in Turbo’s favor, concluding that Britt’s contribution was limited to a one-time recording session in 2017 and that no right existed granting him ongoing rights or royalties. In a clear and resolute judgment, the court rejected Britt’s claims of joint authorship and entitlement to compensation, reaffirming Turbo’s exclusive ownership of the tag. This landmark ruling not only protected Turbo’s intellectual property but also reinforced legal standards surrounding authorship and ownership in the music industry.[[18]]
Classy Girl is a single released on March 7, 2025, by GRAMMY-nominated, diamond-certified producer Turbo, featuring multi-platinum artist Gunna. Released via 300 Entertainment, the song is an upbeat anthem celebrating the strength, beauty, and individuality of women. It marks the first co-credited collaboration between Turbo and Gunna since their 2023 single "Bachelor," continuing their successful musical partnership.
