Q1: Why does this article describe the boogaloo movement as "far right"?
A1: A June–July 2020 RfC (permalink) determined that the overwhelming majority of reliable sources describe the movement as far-right. Even though some sources may use other descriptors for the movement, or individuals and groups may self-describe differently, this article reflects the commonly-used descriptors for the movement, which include "far-right". Please note that now that the inclusion of this descriptor has been confirmed by formal consensus, new consensus will need to be achieved (likely by RfC) to change it. Q2: Why does this article describe the boogaloo movement as "white supremacist"?
A1: This article does not state that all boogaloo groups or the movement as a whole is white supremacist, but rather that some of the groups are—a claim that is well-supported by the sourcing. The article also says that some other groups condemn racism and white supremacy, and have aligned themselves with anti-racist movements like Black Lives Matter. |

The term "Far-right" and "anti-government" is an oxymoron in the first sentence.
[edit]The core tenets for "far-right" are as follows:
- Radical Conservatism
- Authoritarianism
- Ultra-Nationalism
All three of these tenets have the direct characterization of support for authoritarianism. Which directly contradicts the statement of "anti-government". 136.61.72.232 (talk) 01:00, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- The left-right spectrum is and always will be an over-simplification, and I don't see this as much of a contradiction. Regardless, Wikipedia doesn't publish original research. Many reliable sources are cited in this article which describe this movement as far-right, and the existence of an anti-government far-right is also well-documented. Grayfell (talk) 01:17, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- It's not original research, last time i looked there were academic sources discussing this contradiction and the media's part in creating it. Maybe now that the media and Wikipedia freak out about a supposed "movement" has died off it might be a good time to rework the article. If anyone is interested in working on the article i can take a fresh look for sources. fiveby(zero) 02:27, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
- Just because something theoretically can be sourced doesn't mean that it's not original research. If you want to propose sources, go ahead, but that won't change the article's existing sources. To be relevant to this specific article, any sources about the definition of "far-right" would likely have to also mention the Boogaloo movement by name. Instead of working backwards from assumptions about what the term means, we have to summarize what sources are saying. If sources do not directly explain this supposed contradiction, than there isn't very much we can do about that. Grayfell (talk) 02:39, 28 February 2025 (UTC)
