Minor Edit
[edit]"The finer material, or silt, consists of sand and mud. Larger particles, or gravel, are also typically present in a wide range of sizes."
- Edited because silt is not made of sand and mud. Silt is a substance smaller than sand but larger than clay.

[edit]Is alluvium a synonym to sediment? /Habj 15:08, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- No. Alluvium is a type of sediment, usually the gravel, silt, etc deposited by a river along its floodplain. Sediment is a more general term that would include alluvium. Vsmith 17:34, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
fluvisol
[edit]is fluvisol and alluvium the same thing
Alluvial vs. Fluvial
[edit]I think that the definition an explanation of these two terms needs to differ, either by saying 1)fluvial is from perenial rivers, alluvial is not (or at least, not controlled by river sedimentary processes 100% of the time) or 2) fluvial as a subset of alluvial sediments, alluvial being any unconsolidated sediments, fluvial being only from rivers. It is my opinion that the alluvial definition is the one that needs to change.--Qfl247 (talk) 18:24, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
Need an article
[edit]Right now, this article seems to fall afoul of wp:NOTDICT. That said, Susan Mayhew's A Dictionary of Geography p.18 seems to be helpful, including providing cites to a number of relevant sources. LeadSongDog come howl! 17:37, 3 March 2011 (UTC)
