"Paradise" is a song by Italian DJ Benny Benassi and American singer Chris Brown, released on 31 March 2016, as the ninth single from Benassi's fourth studio album Danceaholic.[2]

Background

[edit]

The song was written by Benassi, Brown, Daniel Daley, Alle Benassi and Stephen Kozmeniuk. Brown and Benassi had worked together for the first time on the song "Beautiful People" in 2010, and subsequently Benassi had produced another track for Brown, "Don't Wake Me Up", in 2012. After these collaborations Brown said in an interview for Billboard: "Benny and I have a history of making special music for the fans worldwide, and "Paradise" is another collaboration that I believe the fans will love and embrace".[3]

In August 2015 Benassi has premiered a demo called "Paradise" on his SoundCloud page and removed it later.[4][5] In March 2016 Brown had posted on his Instagram profile photos showing him and Benassi on the set for the video.[1] Shortly after, on March 31, the song was released.[6]

Critical reception

[edit]

Billboard wrote positively of the track, complimenting "Brown’s infectious hook" and the track's "slick house beat and euphoric chords".[3] Capital XTRA listed the song among "the best EDM songs of 2016".[7] The Boombox praised the track for its "smooth R&B hook paired with a feel-good, summertime groove".[8] Hollywood Life stated that the track is "amazing", featuring an "awesome house beat", calling it one of the best "summer jams" of 2016.[9]

Music video

[edit]

On 7 April 2016 Ultra Music uploaded the music video for "Paradise" on his YouTube account.[10] The video was shot in March 2016,[11] and features Benassi and Brown partying with "bikini clad ladies" and biking along the boardwalk in Hermosa Beach, California.[9]
