Black Snow is an Australian crime drama television series set in an Australian South Sea Islander community in northern Queensland. It was released on Stan on 1 January 2023. A second season was announced in March 2024.The second series goes to air on 1 January 2025.[1]
Synopsis
[edit]In 2019, police detective James Cormack investigates the cold case murder of 17-year-old Isabel Baker in 1994.
With a new investigation, Cormack investigates two missing persons cases from 2003, as he investigates the disappearance of his young brother and Zoe Jacobs.[2]

Production
[edit]The first series of Black Snow was made in 2022 and directed by Matthew Saville and Sian Davies. It was written by Lucas Taylor, Boyd Quakawoot, and Beatrix Christian[3] Season 1 was filmed in and around Proserpine, Queensland. On 9 April 2024 Black Snow would go into production for it's second season, it would film in and around the Glass House Mountains in Queensland..[4] Fimmel confirmed that he filmed the final episode of the second season.[5] and became executive producer of show for 2nd season [6]
Release
[edit]Black Snow was released on Stan on 1 January 2022.[7]
It was renewed for a second season on 12 March 2024.[8]
In the United States, the series was released on Sundance Now and AMC+.[9] In the United Kingdom, the show aired on BBC Four and streamed on BBC iPlayer.[10]
Reception
[edit]The Sydney Morning Herald's Karl Quinn wrote "Black Snow is a Trojan horse of a show. It’s an effective crime drama that does pretty much all you could ask of it. But lurking inside there’s a whole legion of more challenging ideas."[7] Luke Buckmaster of The Guardian gave it three stars, saying it is "a mostly well-made murder mystery that starts strong but runs out of gas as it approaches its twist-filled ending".[11]
