Adding a new AfD discussion

Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:

Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Sports|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.

Here is my problem with these stand-alone articles. All four disciplines are often not contested. There are often not enough competitors to award a bronze medal, and in some cases, even a silver medal. Many of these competitions featured no more than two or three participants. And most of the competitors who are listed are redlinked or unlinked (ie. themselves not notable). The competition results and scores are included (or should be included) on a skaters' individual article. The medal results are included on the parent article (in this case, Swiss Figure Skating Championships). Merge (highly selectively) into Jewish Community Center. I do not see it mentioned at the target so the proposed redirect is not really an option. However, a retargeting discussion can take place if others believe a different article makes more sense. Having multiple good redirect targets is not a valid reason to delete instead of redirect. Keep - per WP:NLIST, "one accepted reason why a list topic is considered notable is if it has been discussed as a group or set by independent reliable sources". NCAA DII & DIII schools are often discussed as a group by reliable sources, and the schools themselves and NCAA D2/D3 are all independently notable. @Glman: You are correct that NCAA DII & DIII schools are often discussed as a group by reliable sources, but to me that is a justification for List of NCAA Division II football programs and List of NCAA Division III football programs, not this article. From what I understood, NOTSTATS is relevant here because this could be considered an "excessive listing of unexplained statistics"; the topic of this list is not explicitly stated in prose in the article at all (however obvious it may be from the title of the article, the title of the table, or the contents of the table itself), and the list is not given any context. Also, the fact that the DIII list contains only 20 teams (and the No. 1 ranked team is a school that has apparently played a whopping one game) sort of undermines the "group or set" argument since the vast majority of said group is absent from the list. I'm not sure win–loss records are excessive or confusing. Nationwide opinion polling for the 2012 United States presidential election is the example given at NOTSTATS that was moved to its own article. Also, MOS:AVOIDBOLD says "If the article's title does not lend itself to being used easily and naturally in the first sentence, the wording should not be distorted in an effort to include it." I agree that they are not confusing, just that the wording of NOTSTATS seems to agree with the state of this article. The statistics listed in this article are, indeed, unexplained, and they're given no context or background information, which is not the case for the polling article you linked. I have no issue with the fact that there's no bold text at the start of the article, my issue is the total lack of context whatsoever (the "lead paragraph" of each article gives no indication as to what the article is about). The whole list is sourced to a single NCAA document which was published in 2017, meaning that the list is lazily sourced (read: unsourced) at best and OR at worst. The D3 article is even worse, since its one and only source links to a table which, without other user input, displays only "No data available in table". Weak keep if renamed List of NFL quarterbacks who have beaten every team in the league and trimmed. (Also remove the criterion "beaten every team he faced at least once", which is just made up.) It satisfies NLIST, but only for every team, not every team but n (n=1, 2, 3, etc.). This is a rare achievement which requires a QB to go to another team and then beat his former team. Where are the sources that support this addition? I don't see any. (The closest I can find is that Mahomes is the youngest to beat all 31 other teams, and that's a different kettle of fish.) Trim and merge to List of NFL individual records#Quarterback wins. Specifically, I would add a bullet for those retired QBs who have beaten all but one team if they spent their entire career with one team. Kerry Collins is listed in three of the sources above though. Here is an excerpt: "Oddly, one other quarterback, Kerry Collins, beat 31 teams, but the team Collins never beat, the Dolphins, wasn’t one of the teams he played for. I find it more notable that a QB spent their entire career with one team and beat every other team in the league (31/31) than being traded and still not beating every team in the league (31/32). Collins wouldn't be on the list of "all but one" if he had never been traded since he never beat the Dolphins. If sources were the only criterion, then we would have hundreds of times more articles than we do now. I was featured in my hometown newspapers covering my Eagle Scout project, so should I have a Wikipedia article? The answer is no, because I do not meet WP:GNG despite the fact I can provide sources. At what point do we stop adding names to these lists? Your example, an article in a local paper about a local person/event, does not qualifiy as a Wikipedial source. You are confusing verifiability with notability. Sports writers have written about QBs with wins against all teams as a group (I'm stretching just to include the two who beat the 28 then-existing teams), as demonstrated by WikiOriginal-9. I frankly don't think "Quarterback beat all teams but three" (or four) merits mention in an encyclopedia at all. I would merge everything above two into quarterback records. However, given the size of List of NFL individual records, and the key role played by quarterbacks in the game, I would split out a separate List of NFL quarterback records. @Clarityfiend: It is certainly less arbitrary than the current situation, with up to four teams listed. For reasons set forth in the discussion above, it makes sense to list those who have only failed to defeat one team because that will include those who spent their entire career with the one team that was therefore not defeated. Delete In my view, the fact that there is a sports news article every time someone newly meets one of this article's criteria isn't enough to establish WP:NLIST; they all just fall under WP:ROUTINE. Comment Amongst the differing views for this AfD, I see the rationale for deletion and keep being solid. However, that happens with WP:TRIVIA. This is trivia that may or may not cross the GNG threshold. I do not think the merge target really works since the record for Most NFL teams defeated at least once, career is already there, but at the same time deleting for the sake of cruft or lack of GNG may work. That being said, perhaps a no consensus may be what is determined. I would rather this article be trimmed, and written to fit some other obscure stats that probably have GNG. I could see keeping the article as "List of NFL quarterbacks who defeated every team" and trimming it to those quarterbacks and possibly those who defeated all but one (since if you played only for one team you obviously couldn't beat that team and I have no doubt that there would be sources that such quaterbacks defeated every other team). There seems to be a weak consensus against keeping this as a standalone article (despite some editors presenting legitimate evidence for notability) but definitely not a consensus for deletion and no consensus on how to handle some degree of merging. You've offered no evidence that this subject clears WP:NLIST. Wikipedia is not a place for recording the coaches' record and achievement since it is WP:NOTDATABASE. Keep as both do have WP:SIGCOV from a number of international sources for them. They also fulfil WP:GNG therefore should not be deleted. Furthermore the rationales for the other seasons being deleted are not relevant to these two as 2024's ruling was on the grounds of no RS's (which the two here have loads of) and 2023's was on the grounds of a lack of SIGCOV (which both here have several demonstratively) and for being poorly source (see above for why that's not relevant here as both are well sourced). Comment the length of career cannot be relied upon to provide an indication of the notability of the career of a sportsperson. This has been discussed a number of times, both in relation to cricket and other sports, and formed at least some of the discussion around the revision to NSPORTS a couple of years ago. A variety of quantifiable limits were proposed at various times and non were deemed to be acceptable. Balmain's notability rests with whether to not he is notable, nothing else.

In this case, there is clearly some notability and some sources exist which tell us things about him. I suspect that there are more – I'm not certain where McCarron has found him to be a soldier from, but that would indicate that other sources can be presumed to exist. Are those sources enough to show notability? Not sure – there are other passing references to him in PapersPast, including some nice little quotes, but the limited amount of time he appears to have spent in New Zealand means that there aren't many. Fwiw, I declined the initial PROD, partly because I wasn't awfully happy that the nomination had been made seriously, partly because I wasn't sure that a search of PapersPast had taken place, and partly because I wanted to work on List of Nelson representative cricketers, which now exists. That provides an obvious ATD, allowing the article to be redirected to there if it's considered not to be notable. Much of the prose content of the article could be the basis for a note applied to Balmain' list entry, rather like the notes added at List of Otago representative cricketers, for example. Redirect to Southwestern Pirates football - Subject fails GNG due to lack of SIGCOV. This is the most notable tenant (as a college and not a high school) so it makes the most sense as a target. However, a retargeting discussion can take place if others believe a different article makes more sense. Having multiple good redirect targets is not a valid reason to delete instead of redirect. James Armson

WP:PROD was overturned as User:Telfordbuck said that the player had not played in a professional league, which User:Spiderone removed, interpreting it as a reference to the defunct WP:NFOOTY. I've seen hundreds of articles made by User:Das osmnezz, and what I've noticed is that they are often vague on why a player should be considered notable and seem to put the WP:BURDEN on others to do the legwork and investigate minor figures. What we've got from the page is that a local newspaper considered him one of the most important players at the mighty Nuneaton Borough, then he signed for Solihull Moors, then one season later Brackley Town. He won the FA Trophy at Brackley, a competition for teams in the fifth to eighth levels of English football. A handicap tournament excluding the best 92 teams. No sources have been provided for if he was an exceptional individual part of that success. I think we need exceptional coverage to establish notability for someone whose highest level of football was the fifth level, and who has spent the last decade in the sixth. That hasn't been provided and I can't find it. There's BBC coverage of a hat-trick against Gillingham, [14] a bigger but not exactly massive club, in 2016 but surely that's WP:BLP1E as 15 minutes of fame in an ordinary career. BBC local radio (not national) have this article on a man of the same name in the local area who runs a youth charity, but it doesn't identify him as a footballer, and I don't think social workers asking for donations pass WP:GNG [15] Unknown Temptation (talk) 18:48, 9 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Plus if we are going on the logic he was an exceptional player at his previous club, that is obviously open to interpretation based on the observer.

If that is the case, where do we stop? You could have thousands of pages created but would not be kept up to date. This one is an example as he moved to AFC Telford over 6 months ago.

Keep - Clearly significant player in English lower leagues with sources and the youth charity person is the same person as the footballer. Telfordbuck's logic does not make sense because most players who played their career in non-league do not have much sources. Article needs improvement, not deletion. Paolo Rossi (footballer, born 1982)

This AfD might be the same issue as Juan Alberto Ramírez that was nominated back in November. Even by searching for his name in combination of clubs he played for, I did not find any significant coverage of Paolo Rossi (footballer, born 1982) to meet WP:GNG. He only played one match for Torino in 2001/02 season, one of the professional football clubs in Italy, before moving to amateur leagues then disappeared for over two decades. ⋆｡˚꒰ঌ Clara A. Artem Lutchenko

The only thing I can find is this, which is about (maybe?) him as a national guardsman and mentions exactly nothing about his football career—indeed, it's not entirely clear that this is even the same guy as the footballer. Jozef Brudňak

Draftify/Merge - I had created Draft:Max Glasser back in 2023 (relevant to this discussion it was moved back to draft space in March 2023) but no one had edited it since August 2024. It seems that the creator of this article may have missed the draft article, so while this version we're commenting on can't technically be moved back into the draft space as it didn't exist there previously as far as I can tell, I do think that merging this draft with the preexisting one to be fleshed out with more content and most importantly more independent sources would be for the best. The subject of this article does not meet WP:NSPORTSEVENT (the specific notability guideline for a single match) nor any general notability guidelines. This is because it is not an individually notable match in itself, as just one of a series of knockout games in regular competition, and because it does not appear to have much media coverage that is not WP:ROUTINE. @Lyndis Parlour: The sources you have linked (without actually adding any article content, just the sources) are, top to bottom: a non-RS that is a player interview mentioning the game in passing (see SIGCOV), an Arsenal fan blog than lauds the game's attendance (see SPS), and a simple list of match attendance figures (see DATABASE). None of these are suitable for use in the article (which I think you actually know, just putting them in as external links), let alone establishing notability. This match is very notable and represents a historic moment in the history of women's football in England. This is also reflected in the links and references provided with the article that comment from a range of reputable sources. The article was written to detail the history and to provide information about the game both from UEFA, media outlets and players to provide historical context to the events that occurred. I have now added even more links. This game is far more significant than any standard game of football and any consideration that is isn't suggests that that person is not well informed on women's football - a chronically underreported sport and poorly represented on Wikipedia. Which of the reference sources from itv, ESPN, the Guardian, the New York Times, and BBC sport aren't considered notable by @Kingsif? As noted in this "Some games or series are likely or almost certain to be considered notable, including but not limited to the following:" the list given are just examples. In the history of Women's football, this game is a match of note. The coverage alone makes that clear. The quotes from the players about the match also made that clear but they were deleted from the article. Notability is often so subjective with articles on this platform and too many people have an agenda to devalue perfectly notable articles because of their subject matter. You do not have any sources that say the match either represents a historic moment in the history of women's football in England or is far more significant than any standard game of football. UEFA match reports, and match reports from RS outlets, are still WP:ROUTINE coverage, which I implore you to actually read and understand before asserting that others don't know what routine coverage is. What you personally think is notable is not the same as Wikipedia's notability guidelines.

Stop with the bad faith accusations. There is a difference between making sure we create and maintain N-compliant articles focused on women's topics and (something too many people try to do now:) making stubby articles about non-notable women's topics just to boost the quantity without care for quality, overall harming the intention of gender parity in Wikipedia coverage.

As this discussion is about N-compliant sources, I will assess the sources you have added. These three; two for saying the match was the first time Arsenal W.F.C. had sold out the main stadium (TBF, a logical assumption) - one of these being a press release from the club itself (see PRIMARY) - and the other a passing mention that due to ticket sales in this and other matches, the main stadium would continue to be used. Look, I am sure it is possible to find the minimum of three non-routine, non-SPS, SIGCOV, RS sources about the match if you really try. The question is to ask yourself: does this a standalone article warrant. Or is the actual notable content that can be gleaned from those sources simply better suited as a "they set the attendance record for a women's club football game in England and sold out the Emirates" mention at the 2022–23 Arsenal W.F.C. season article. Delete The fact that's it's the best attended women's football match in England would be a reason to mention that in a list article about attendences if one existed. However, it does not make the match itself automatically notable as some people above are trying to do. No WP:SUSTAINED coverage, so doesn't need a separate article. I have added more sources to demonstrate the coverage. It is also worth noting that there is not a black and white rule for the specific notability guideline for a single match (WP:NSPORTSEVENT). Considering the historic lack of coverage of some topics over others, careful judgement must be used when considering impact. Such a sporting event should be considered in the context of the competition it is in (this case the UWCL), the history of the sport/the event/ and the country it occurred in. In this case this match represented a record for the club, the competition in the UK and an attendance record in the UK for all of Women's football at the time it occurred. It was a significant event that had consequences for subsequent matches and the business of women's football beyond this period. Your "additional sources" were both published on or before (The Guardian's quote piece) the day the match was played, so I don't know where you get the boldness to say they demonstrate widespread acceptance by main stream sources at the significance that was beyond this period. Keep: Not enough WP:BEFORE was done especially under Fadimatou Kome for this nom as the subject is an international Cameroonian player who plays for a team in the Turkish Women's Football Super League. According to the BBC (and here and here) she competed in the Women's Africa Cup of Nations in 2022. I found all of these in my searches but didn't consider them for source analysis as they are all trivial mentions, for example La Depeche is just a passing mention in a match report followed by two squad listings. Some of them are only squad list mentions, like this. I'm not subscribed to Cameroon Tribune but none of the reports look like they address Kome in any significant depth (i.e. multiple sentences about Kome). @GiantSnowman and @Spiderone WP:SPORTBASIC:Sports biographies must include at least one reference to a source providing significant coverage of the subject, excluding database sources.. The article about the transfer is solely about her. One BBC article mentioned she received a red card during a game. There are also plenty of databases sources because she is a FIFA recognised senior international who played for Cameroon during major tournaments. I have improved the article with above sources and more.

Marcelino Da Costa Fernandes was deleted only a few months ago and he had 3 senior FIFA caps. Even 100 trivial mentions doesn't necessarily equal one piece of significant coverage. BBC is great but the sources are a trivial mention of getting sent off, with no further elaboration, a squad list mention and another squad list mention. None of these articles explore Kome in detail and, in each case, there are several, several other players mentioned at various points in the article. WP:NSPORTS2022 paved the way for a change in the notability criteria whereby having caps and/or playing in a professional league was no longer a 'free pass'. Since then, there have been several articles deleted in which a player has been capped. For example, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mohammad Zaki, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Allyson Jolicoeur, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marcelino Da Costa Fernandes and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lamberto Gama. I also understand that players who do not play in the Western world can be hard to find sources for, unless you dig in their native language but that is why we have this debates so people can provide evidence.

Keep, such stub articles are notable. The winner of this competition qualifies to Uefa competition, such articles exists also for Spain , England U18 level,and few more countries. Morning, there is coverage for sure. Technicaly there are plenty news about this league on websites, social media platforms. I just did a google search and I personally found a lot of them. Matches of this U19 league are regulary on Moldovan TV named - We Sport. Also they are available on youtube platform. I personally didnt add a lot of this secondary sources just because this was not my goal. The primary source was able to cover the league table and results of each season. However moldovan FA edited their website and unfortunately all the primary source until the season 2021–22 Moldovan Under-19 Division has gone.

The Moldovan FA would not be an independent source, since they organize the Moldovan Youth League. Notice how the Irish article you provided is sourced to publications such as The Irish Times, the Irish Examiner, the Connacht Tribune, the Irish Independent, RTÉ.ie, the Evening Echo and The Mayo News. Keep Re your own source assessment. The first source is a LONG profile on him, and is definitely a secondary source, the “I” in the automatic translation is reported speech from inside quotes given to the journalist as part of the article (which is not an interview either, those are specific quotations, not part of a longer question and answer session/transcript). The seventh source is likewise a two page profile specifically on him (not sure if you noticed that was page 2 of two, separated by hyperlinks at the bottom of the page), whether you think the intellectual standard of the analysis in the article is up to snuff, the article itself is inarguably a SIGCOV worthy source, being an independent secondary source focused solely on the subject of the article. KEEP, but merge with corrections — this article seems like a duplication of the already-existing Reo Nakamura (footballer, born 1990) and hence a merge into the existing article may be more appropriate, once the errors have been corrected. It seems like the author of the article has made a spelling error, instead of “Reo” (the correct first name) they have put “Ryo” as the name of the subject and (for some reason) changed their DoB from 1990 to 1989.

The article's own source shows the name of the subject as “Reo”, not “Ryo” (as the author has put) and the correct DoB of the subject as 1990, not 1989 (as the author has put). The reason the others (CC: @GiantSnowman, @CommunityNotesContributor, @QEnigma) could not verify/find sources was because the author wrote the incorrect information on the Wikipedia article. The career statistics section, especially, I feel could be merged into the already existing article.

Keep - I looked through the Cumhuriyet online archive (only subscribers can view actual scans of the pages, but a text conversion is available here: [24]), and there are a few articles from the 1970s and 1980s that provide some coverage of Taner's managerial career. I expanded the article a little based on a few of the hits, and I believe there is enough in this online archive to suggest other offline Turkish-language media sources exist that would be enough to provide SIGCOV. Possible keep. His Eurohockey profile indicates he played 25 years professionally. Surely there are sources in foreign languages? For example: Polish Wikipedia, Russian Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia Searching in Russian for hockey-related articles is a bit difficult due to the businessman Alexander Medvedev's involvement in hockey. Delete It does appear to be a likely COI. More importantly, I can't find what I would call significant independent coverage of him by independent sources. I found no mentions of him at the WKF website or in the results of any major adult karate competition--not Commonwealth, continental, or world championships.
