Dog Man: Casino Royale (#13) (Recommended ages 13-16)

In the 13th epic novel by Dav Pilkey, Dog Man witnesses the return of GRAMPA, fresh out of jail and in debt to foreign adversaries. The New Supa Buddies must face off with Grampa at the Casino Royale for $1 Billion and the ultimate showdown in a dog-eat-dog thriller.

Summary[]

Chapter 1: Big Chase[]

Grampa is in prison, and is visited by some mysterious henchmen. They tell him he owes $1 Billion to some foreign trade exchange. Grampa slyly talks to them, saying that if he can bust out of prison, he would raise the money. The henchmen threaten the guard to release Grampa, then use guns to control the whole jail, thereby cops won't get in the way of Grampa paying his debt. Meanwhile, Dog Man is spying on a crook in a crowd of people cheering a wrestling match. The cop aiding Dog Man winds up blowing his cover with a hearing device, leaving Dog Man to chase the crook across buildings and into a construction site. Dog Man uses ingenuity, and drives a massive digger into the structure being built, then runs up the arm and onto the steel beams, while the crook ascends to the top of a crane on a lift. Dog Man follows him, and they grapple and bark at each other. Both jump down and roll to the ground. Finally, they reach the Embassy and Dog Man lets off a skunk stink bomb. The crook is captured, and Dog Man bites him.

Chapter 2: License Revoked[]

Dog Man is admonished by Chief and goes on probation. However, while snacking on Doritos back home, Dog Man realizes he has the crook's cell phone, which leads him to ignore Chief, fly to Bahamas, and play a game of Craps in order to win a new stylish car (sold by Dippy). Dog Man then follows suit a bomb terrorist to the museum, where he has to trap a criminal spy without being hurt.

Chapter 3: Planes, Tanks, and Automobiles[]

Lil' Petey is contacted by Dog Man, saying that there is a bomb in the airport. LP has an alarm going off to evacuate. The bomb terrorist disguises as a cop and Dog Man chases him through the crowd into the airfield. The criminal steals a big oil truck, and drives off towards the giant hangar. Dog Man runs up an airplane staircase and jumps on top of the truck going by, holding onto the edge. (Turns out, the terrorist is headed to crash into the biggest airliner in the country, being unveiled today). The terrorist tries to swerve and drop Dog Man, and crashes through a bus and a baggage train. Going high speed, Dog Man jumps into the cabin and begins biting and growling at the criminal, who swerves, knocking Dog Man out the door, hanging on under the truck. Dog Man finds a small beeping bomb latched on, then after grappling some more he hooks in onto the criminal, stops the truck from crashing into the airplane, and the bomb kills the terrorist criminal. Dog Man is captured and locked up under Maude's eye.

Chapter 4: High Steaks[]

Grampa is angry that his vengeful plots didn't go off and no-one really suffered. He invites the cops to a high-stakes poker game outside of town, and it is attended by Chief, Molly, Lil' Petey, Maude and Dog Man. The first round goes as well as it is predicted; The cops are cleaned out $50 Million and Dog Man goes broke. Chief reprimands Dog Man, but gives him one last chance. During the break time, PETEY turns up, working for an official organization. He sits down and plays with Grampa, who cons and jokes about him, making Petey typically mad and annoyed. Chief and Nurse Lady have a nice suite in the hotel, but overhear someone being tortured in the upper floor. Dog Man is sent up to investigate.

Chapter 5: Stairwell Fight[]

The elevator opens, and Dog Man knocks on the door of the torturing bad guys. He makes himself look unassuming, peeing in the stair well across the hall. The bad guys are not convinced, and draw swords and guns to attack Dog Man, who kicks one in the balls making him fall down the stairs, while the other swings his cutlass while Dog Man tears his red tuxedo and the two of them tumble down the stairs, leaving Dog Man to bite and gnaw on the criminal at the bottom after the ride. Chief and Nurse Lady turn up, and have to clean up the mess. Nurse Lady is shocked.

Back in their suite, Chief, after cleaning up the criminal, finds Nurse Lady in the shower, in her clothes, crying. Chief comforts her.

Chapter 6: A Buncha Stuff That Happened Next[]

It is round 2 at the poker table and Petey is cleaned out of money and Grampa makes him angry. Dog Man wins back a little money. Yolay Caprese sits at a bar while a waitress takes a glass of toilet water for Dog Man. (She poisoned it, ssshh! / She's a foreign adversary, but no one finds out!) He drinks it, then unassumingly continues. Grampa looks at him menacingly, then at the glass. Dog Man realizes he's poisoned, and leaves the table, stumbling into the bathroom. (blurry drawings). Dog Man tries to drink water from the sink but drops the glass and slinks off to the parking lot and his car, where he telephones 80-HD back home. 80-HD formulates an antidote and Dog Man tries to apply it, but passes out, and Molly reawakens him. Dog Man returns to the poker table to Grampa's shock.

Chapter 7: Making Payments[]

Dog Man continues to raise the pot and the team of cops one by one drops out. It is soon only Grampa and Dog Man, and Dog Man calls Grampa's bluff, winning the $1 Billion. Grampa leaves in a rage, and Dog Man and the cops celebrate. However, at the party in the hotel Chief leaves to renew his parking till, and Dog Man follows. He sees and has to chase Chief, who is captured by Grampa and his henchmen and driven off. Dog Man grabs his Dogmobile and chases after them, but in the dark he sees Chief tied up in the middle of the road. The Dogmobile skids and flips, destroying it entirely. Dog Man is taken with Chief to a dungeon, where they are both tortured with squeaky balls and bones. Grampa is angry at Dog Man, trying to get his bank account, but Lil' Petey taught him not to reveal it. A mysterious agent turns up and just outright shoots Grampa, and Dog Man fades into whiteness.

Chapter 8: Reduce, Reuse Recover[]

Dog Man and Chief recover in hospital, and Petey tries to come to terms with his father. Lil' Petey is proud of Dog Man for not revealing his account code, which turns out to be "Petey". Dog Man considers leaving the police unit to recover, and to this, Maude instantly changes things around at the station to oust Dog Man. Chief tries to make Dog Man reconsider, but realizes that dog-headed cops will not survive in this 2020s world. Dog Man retires and babysits with Flippy to create comics with Lil' Petey and Molly and the Baby Tadpoles.

The story segues into CAT KID COMIC CLUB 7. (spin-off).
