Let's do this.
#13: Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea[]
I think we can all agree on this that this book was made just as a placeholder for book fans as they worked on the film, as this thing sucked. The FLEAS lost their touch, the submarine gimmick is confusing and not needed, and don't even get me started on Junior. The only good thing that came out of this book where the new characters: Uncle Larry, Mike, and Ducky. They honestly could replace the FLEAS.
#12: Dog Man: Fetch-22[]
Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea is the only bad book. The rest from here are at least decent, such as this one. Honestly, it's not a bad book. However, Flippy returning was very overhyped and did not do anything special to the book. The Fair Fairy also made it feel like a Captain Underpants book instead of a Dog Man book for some reason. I don't know why I don't like that, but I don't.
#11: Dog Man[]
Ah, the sudden rush of nostalgia. The book that started it all. As well as the most outdated book in history. There weren't enough heroes, and Chief was just plain cruel. I'm glad they kept Chief's personality into the movie, yet made him less harsh, but still.
#10: Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties[]
The book that started the real series. And it's great. At the time, it was the most original book in the series, yet now I just read it for nostalgia. Honestly, Li'L Petey was just annoying in this book rather than the nicest person in the world. And I could still draw better than this when I was in fifth grade, so I don't know what Harold (Dav) was thinking having something drawn like this, especially since it was better in Unleashed. Speaking of which,
#9: Dog Man: Unleashed[]
The much needed sequel to the first book and definitely much better. I love Flippy being the twist villain, Flat Petey was awesome, and I loved how Dog Man liked Zuzu at the beginning of the story. That relationship needs to be more spread out. Everything is awesome, and it was the last book where Dog Man was the main, MAIN character.
#8: Dog Man: Big Jim Begins[]
Ah, the most recent book. If you don't want small spoilers, then just skip to the next section. Otherwise, here you go! Petey isn't even MENTIONED in the book. This definitely brought the book down spots in my ranking, but despite this it's a pretty decent book. I will post more on my thoughts on the Discussions Feed.
#7: Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas[]
The FLEAS are awesome, Petey being the good guy, and the Supa Buddies' introduction makes this a really good book. There are just better.
#6: Dog Man: Grime and Punishment[]
I think we all agree the mayor sucked. The rest of the book however was great. Petey's character ark was amazing, and having his dad being the main antagonist was perfect. Also, when they went to the graveyard at the end of the book, I almost cried (I'm not even joking).
#5: Dog Man and Cat Kid[]
The most unique book in the series with Dog Man having a movie (dang this book predicted the future) and Li'L Petey's character ark is amazing and sweet. Yolay is awesome, yet could've done more, and the book was ultimately a really good book.
#4: Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild[]
You know how I said that Dog Man and Cat Kid was the most unique book in the series? Well I was lying. THIS has twice the amount of uniqueness as that. Dog Man being arrested, while it's overdone now, was awesome then and unique. Yolay returns and Chief and 80-HD's dynamic is great. Dog Man's character ark is also sweet.
#3: Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls[]
The introduction of Grampa, the FLEAS breaking up in a relieving way, and Dr. Scum returning was amazing. Petey's whole dynamic changed for the better, Big Jim got the recognition he deserved, and Dog Man actually is important. However, his character ark is unoriginal, and that kind of makes the book a little less good. But barely.
#2: Dog Man: Mothering Heights[]
OK. This is going to be very, VERY controversial, and a lot of you may hate me now, but Mothering Heights is good. Chief and Nurse Lady's relationship is awesome, Petey's backstory is completely revealed (poor Petey) and Dog Man still is included in, even if he doesn't do much. The only thing I don't really like are the Sippy Cups, two villains not needed, but it works.
#1: Dog Man: The Scarlet Shedder[]
I think we all agree on this. The second most recent book is DEFINITELY the best by far. Dog Man is actually important for once, the nod to recent years IRL was needed, Dr. Scum's return (again), Petey's character ark, Big Jim's now-learned tragic backstory, Chief and Nurse Lady marry each other (OK??????) and more. There is nothing bad about this book. This is the best book ever.
Trivia[]
- I didn't include the CKCC books because that would change the entire list and make things really hard.
- The film will also not be included, whether it comes or not. I will make my own blog specifically on that.
