Una Merkel was an American film actress, whose only three Disney roles were Verbena in The Parent Trap, Mariah Popham in Summer Magic, and Mrs. Watkins in A Tiger Walks.

Merkel was born in Kentucky and acted on stage in New York in the 1920s. She went to Hollywood in 1930 and became a popular film actress. Two of her best-known performances are in the films: 42nd Street and Destry Rides Again. Her other film appearances included Abraham Lincoln, Born to Dance, I Love Melvin, The Bank Dick, Kill the Umpire, This Is the Army, Road to Zanzibar, The Merry Widow, The Mating Game, Spinout, and Summer and Smoke, where she was nominated an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Also having a career on the a stage, Merkel won a Tony Award for her role on Broadway in The Ponder Heart. She also appeared in the plays: Coquette, Take Me Along, and The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker.
