Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc. is the American entertainment subsidiary of Sony Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary of Japanese multinational technology and media conglomerate Sony.
Sony Pictures co-produced Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man 4 with Marvel Studios. They also have co-distribution deals with Disney in Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Greece. Sony Pictures Entertainment serves as the parent of Columbia Pictures.[1]

Spider-Man and other Marvel Characters[]
Sony Pictures had been involved with Marvel's Spider-Man franchise before Disney acquired Marvel. It optioned script versions of a Spider-Man film from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer via Columbia Pictures in April 1999.[3] The film would eventually become the 2002 Spider-Man film.
Home media distribution[]
Before Disney reached an agreement with Sony they released some shows on VHS and DVD, most of which were Disney related shows or shows that were owned by Disney, such as Bear in the Big Blue House and videos related to The Muppets franchise.
On February 20, 2024, it was reported that Sony Pictures had reached an agreement to distribute physical releases by Disney in North America, succeeding Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.
