Sabino is Asha's paternal grandfather, who at the age of 100, is still patiently waiting for his wish to be granted. However, Asha isn't as patient and really wants King Magnifico to grant his wish.[1]
Personality[]
Sabino is a kind and loving grandfather and both he and Asha maintain a sweet relationship.[1] He is a devoted family man, who cares very deeply about his granddaughter and daughter-in-law, having a strong relationship with the both of them. And despite his old age, Sabino willingly puts himself at risk to protect his family, especially his granddaughter when her life gets endangered by the king of Rosas. Other than being a family man, Sabino likes playing the mandolin and performing in front of others. It's assumed that due to Sabino's wish to be a musician, he wants to inspire and bring people together by writing and playing new songs for a new generation.
Like everyone else in his home country, Sabino respected King Magnifico and admired his powers to grant wishes. When being told by Asha that the king had no desire to grant his wish, Sabino did not believe her and insisted that Magnifico keeping his wish safe was the right thing to do while believing if he were told of what his wish was, even if it could never be granted by Magnifico or anyone else, it will bring him heartache and despair. However, upon seeing his wish, Sabino realized he wasted his life giving it to the king and held nothing but contempt for Magnifico, especially when he started threatening his granddaughter's life. Sabino also fully accepted his wish and despite knowing he was of old age, he was willing to pursue his dream of playing music to bring happiness and closeness to people through his songs.
Physical appearance[]
Sabino is a 100-year old Caucasian elderly man with wrinkly skin, white hair, blue eyes, a large nose, and a goatee.
Trivia[]
The name "Sabino" is of Spanish and Latin origin meaning "wise".
Since Asha and her family are Jewish, he is called "saba" by Asha, which is Hebrew for "grandfather" (סַבָּא sába).
Sabino is similar to Coco Rivera from Pixar's Coco, as they are both elderly grandparents who love music and outlive their children by living up to be a hundred. The only difference is Coco dies when she turns one hundred years old, while Sabino stays alive when he turns the same age.
It is never mentioned whether Sabino had a wife or not, making it possible that Sabino and his partner had their son out of wedlock.
He is based off of Grand Pabbie from the Frozen franchise. They both share similarities in the way of wisdom and are around 100 years old.
In the post credits, Sabino plays When You Wish Upon a Star on his mandolin as he looks at the stars. This could indicate that he was possibly the original writer of the song.
