"Le Purrfect Crime" is the fifty-fourth episode of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. It premiered on March 19, 1990, and is the forty-first episode of the second season.
Plot
When the Rescue Rangers learn that dogs are fleeing from Paris, they travel there and learn about the latest plot of Maltese de Sade, Fat Cat's French cousin.
Meanwhile, Dale has been insulted by his team, mainly Chip, who claims that he's a distraction to the rest of the Rangers. Hurt and thinking that the Rangers are better off without him, Dale takes Chip's suggestion of sightseeing as he sadly wanders aimlessly through Paris. However, he gets hit on the head by a small Eiffel Tower figure that a man accidentally dropped and gets amnesia, therefore he doesn't remember where he was going and who he is. Maltese de Sade and his henchmen come across Dale where they discover his amnesia. Deciding to take advantage of Dale's amnesia, Maltese de Sade brainwashed him into fighting against his friends.
Gadget tells the rest of the Rangers that they should find Dale as she realized that they might of been too hard on him. However, Chip also points out that Paris has various tourist spots as he believes that they might not find him in time to stop Maltese de Sade. Gadget suggested that the team splits up into two groups in order to find out what Maltese de Sade is up to and find their missing friend. Chip has Monterey Jack and Zipper go look in one spot while he and Gadget go to another one. After getting off a train, Chip and Gadget encounter Dale but sees that he was going to attack. Seeing Dale attacking him and Gadget, Chip realized that he has been too hard on him, but Dale finds the two and attacks them.
Monterey Jack and Zipper found Maltese de Sade as they discover what he's up to then left to tell their friends. Meanwhile, Chip and Gadget keep running from Dale as he continues to attack them. Chip tries to apologize to Dale for his insults, but he doesn't remember that his teammates are his friends or what he's talking about, and he doesn't care. Monterey Jack and Zipper arrive as they attempted to tell Chip and Gadget what Maltese de Sade is planning. However, Chip tells Monterey Jack that he can tell them later because they had to stop Dale and explained that he's out of his head.
Hearing this and realizing that Dale would never hurt them, Gadget realized that Chip is correct that their friend is out of his head and has amnesia. Monterey Jack asked Gadget how Dale would get amnesia as she tells him that their friend got hit on head. Gadget explained to the group that they have to hit Dale on the head again in order to restore his memory. Dale attacked his friends again as he managed to trap Gadget, Monterey Jack and Zipper. Chip fights Dale by himself while at the same time try to hit him on the head again to get his memory back. Although Chip's attempt failed, Dale was able to get hit on the head again by a finger from a sculpture. At first, Dale still attacked Chip but his memory started to return to him when he called his friend by his first name.
Dale becomes confused as he doesn't remember his time during his amnesia then sees their friends trap and Chip explained everything to him. After getting their friends out of their situation, Chip, also on behalf of the other Rangers, apologizes to Dale for being a jerk to him and calling him a distraction for no reason, as he realized that his actions got him into this mess in the first place. Dale forgives Chip, alongside the other Rangers, and the rest of the Rangers are happy to have their friend back. Despite this, the Rangers decided to use Dale to get close to Maltese de Sade as he's unaware that their friend is no longer brainwashed and remembers who he truly is. Unfortunately, Maltese de Sade discovers the ruse and the case was almost put in jeopardy. However, the Rangers were able to stop Maltese de Sade and save Paris.
