Jerome Lawrence "Jerry" Nelson was an American puppeteer, singer, and musician, who started his career working for Bill Baird. Throughout the 1960s, he worked on-and-off with Jim Henson before officially joining Henson's company full-time in 1970, becoming one of the principal Muppet performers for The Muppets.

He performed many Muppet characters over the years, including Floyd Pepper, Robin the Frog, Uncle Deadly, Crazy Harry, Camilla, Dr. Julius Strangepork, ThogDroop, Lew Zealand, J. P. Grosse, Fleet Scribbler, Statler, Pops, T.R. the Rooster, Featherstone, Slim Wilson, Baskerville the Hound, Mad Monty, Blind Pew, and countless others.

Nelson's introductory voice-over from The Muppets was re-used in Muppets Most Wanted. That film was also dedicated to him and Jane Henson, Jim Henson’s wife.
