George Samuel O'Hanlon was an American actor, voice actor, comedian, writer, and director. For Disney, he played Ted in Now You See Him, Now You Don't, a police chief in Charley and the Angel, a parking attendant in The Million Dollar Duck, and Herb Evans in the 1974 Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color movie The Whiz Kid and the Mystery at Riverton.
O'Hanlon was born on November 23, 1912 in Brooklyn, New York and began his acting career by the early 1930s. However, it wouldn't be until 1942 when he gained success as Joe McDoakes in a series of short films up until 1956 and cameos in the films Bop Girl Goes Calypso and Kronos. O'Hanlon appeared on shows, like The Dennis Day Show, I Love Lucy, Maverick, How to Marry a Millionaire, The Reporter, The Jackie Gleason Show, Love, American Style, The Partridge Family, Sanford & Son, and Adam-12. However, in 1962, he gain his most recognized role as George Jetson in The Jetsons, a role he would reprise over 20 years later in two additional seasons from 1985 to 1987 and in various Hanna-Barbara media.
In addition to acting, O'Hanlon wrote and directed episodes for television shows, like Petticoat Junction, 77 Sunset Strip, The Ann Southern Show, The Gallant Men, and Hanna-Barbera's The Flintstones.
On February 11, 1989, just after recording dialogue for Jetsons: The Movie, O'Hanlon was taken to Saint Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, California where he died of a stroke. A previous stroke years before left him blind and limited mobility. He was cremated soon after.
