How can I listen to my iCloud saved music on Vision Pro?

Hi,

Does anyone know how I can listen to my saved music, on Vision Pro, from Apple iCloud..? My personal collection, that was NOT purchased on Apple Music…

Thanks,

Lee

Well... you can still add your music to iTunes and the music can co-exist with the lectures. You aren't being very specific how you store your music if it's not in iTunes, so it's difficult to give advice. It sounds like you haven't put your music in iTunes and don't want to for some reason (?). Do your lectures show up on the AVP? I assume they are still in iTunes even though you "transferred" them to your iPad (?).

As an example, I have added various types of audio to the Music app (which is quite similar to iTunes app). I have purchased music, my own music from ripped CDs, music from my Apple Music Service, plus spoken audio (similar to your lectures). They all show up in the AVP, phone, iPad and computer because I sync through iCloud. I had the same setup when I was using the iTunes app.

You must be signed into the same iCloud account for each device where you want to see the iTunes content. Is this the case for your PC, iPad & AVP?

The best way is to store your personal music in the Apple “Music” app on your computer and have it sync to iCloud. It will then show up in the AVP Music app and can be streamed or downloaded. From your question, it is unclear if you have “Purchased” music that is available on the AVP, but your “Personal” music does not show. There should be no difference between the two types if you include them both in the Music app.

I used to use iTunes Match to sync my own music with iCloud and between my devices (Subscribe to iTunes Match - Apple Support). It is also storing the music library in iCloud and a lot cheaper than Music and it has been great to get the songs I mixed with GarageBand and Logic, my purchased songs, and all my ripped Vinyl records into iCloud and sync them to my other Macs and the iPad, iPod touch and iPhone. But it does not give us access to Music.

I cannot test any longer, if the iTunes Match uploads can be accessed from the Apple Vision Pro as well, because I am now using Apple One, which includes my iCloud Storage subscription plus Music. I switched, when I noticed that iTunes Match did not work as well with the Music.app as as it used to work with iTunes, after Apple replaced iTunes by Music and some features were no longer available with iTunes Match, for example I had problems to download artwork and song lyrics .

Perhaps someone, who is still using iTunes Match, can tell you, if the iCloud upload from iTunes iMatch is also available on Vision Pro.

One caveat, if you want to try iTunes Match for uploading to iCloud - iTunes Match is comparing our audio files to the content of the iTunes Store. If one of our own songs is also at the iTunes Store, it will not upload our own song but use the store version. The songs I recorded from scratchy Vinyl records are now having a much better quality, because the matching has given me much better digitized versions. But some matches have been wrong - for example, my matched version of ABBA's song "Fernando" is now in Spanish and no longer in English - perhaps ABBA used the same backing track for both versions of the song. The same happens, when I create two versions of one of my own songs and use the same backing track. iTunes Match may decide the songs are duplicates and upload only one of them.

The only workaround I have found is to save my ripped music files in Files. It is a cumbersome and most inelegant solution as one is not permitted to transfer music procured outside of  Music. Here’s a hoping that Vision Pro file management will become more like a Mac and less like an iPad. But even iPad allows one to transfer music from outside  Music. Thank you David,

I am using the iTunes library. I’ve used that for transferring music to my iPad.

Now, to sync the iTunes to iCloud, apparently I need to subscribe to Apple Music at £10.99 per month, otherwise iTunes library will not syn to iCloud…

Have I got this wrong..? If this is the case, is there an alternative to Apple Music subscription..?

Thank you…

Lee,

I am nearly certain a subscription to Apple Music is not required to sync through iCloud, although it is possible that I am wrong (other items sync, such as calendar items, passwords, etc.). I wonder if you have enough iCloud storage to sync your music… it has to be large enough to store your entire music library, plus anything else you store in iCloud. Do you have the default (free) 5 GB of iCloud storage, or have you purchased additional storage? It is highly unlikely 5 GB would be sufficient to store your music. I am still somewhat confused because you implied that you sync’ed your lectures through iCloud using iTunes and your music is also in iTunes.

I apologize for giving you misinformation… disregard my latest comments.

I rechecked and apparently you DO need an Apple Music subscription to sync your music, or as leonie stated, a subscription to iTunes Match. I previously had a "Match" subscription, then Apple Music, so I never have been unable to sync music. Also, you DON'T need additional iCloud space for your music library since these services use their own cloud space.

I'll try to only comment on topics where I have actual knowledge in the future! :)
