The owners of Supra are planning to open a sibling spot this fall in Park View that will bring the neighborhood a taste of the Georgian specialities that have made the Logan Circle restaurant a popular draw for the past two years.

Located a block away from the Call Your Mother bagel shop, Tabla will serve a pared-down version of Supra’s menu with a focus on soup dumplings (khinkali) and boat-shaped cheese breads (khachapuri) filled with both traditional and offbeat fillings. The menu will also feature veggie-heavy salads, starters, and mtsvadi (kebabs). Picks from Supra’s all-Georgian wine list will also make the trip to 3227 Georgia Avenue NW.

The 2,000-square-foot space at the new restaurant, about half the size as Supra, will feature 75 seats with garage-style doors revealing a 25-seat patio. “Tabla” refers to an outdoor table used to serve a traditional supra, or celebratory feast.

Supra owners Jonathan and Laura Nelms have hired Design firm 2Scale Interiors for their second D.C. project, which will include a 14-seat bar and communal table for 16. Tbilisi-based street artist Lamb will splash the space with his images of lambs devouring soup dumplings.

Rammy Award-winning global plates restaurant Compass Rose kickstarted D.C.’s khachapuri craze back in 2014, and more U.S. cities are starting to celebrate the cuisine of the former Soviet country wedged between Russia and Turkey. The Bay Area got its first Georgian restaurant last year in Palo Alto.
