The Adivasi people like Kol, Vil, Santhal, Munda, Ho, and Sabar are being exploited by the so-called civilized world in the name of development. They are bereft of their right to the forest, which is essential for their very subsistence. They are stigmatized as the marginal and are forced to leave their natural habitat with the land, water, and forest. However the astonishing truth is that these people strive hard to keep up the ecological balance. They never exploit the natural environment; rather, they fight against environmental exploitation. The Munda people waged war against their exploiters through a revolt referred to as Ulgulaan. What is Hul to the Santhal is Ulgulaan to the Mundas. The article explores the ecological implications of Ulgulaan as found in Devi's immortal novel Aranyer Adhikar (Right to Forest).

The green movement promotes environmental concern among the readers. Deep Ecology, one of the sub-fields of ecocriticism, highlights the significance of every organism in an environment. The article explores a child's understanding of the ecological significance of the commonest objects of nature in an environment. Ruskin Bond is a famous Indian writer in English known for his nature writings. Being a worshipper of nature, Bond's short fiction The Cherry Tree faithfully depicts environmental awareness grows in a child during his close contact with nature. The paper is an attempt to study this beautiful story under the surveillance of green lens.

Ecocriticism is a comparatively new way of analyzing literature or art and is considered to be a mind-expanding theory as it seeks to expand our understanding of the environment that allows reading literature from nature's perspective and prompt eco-critics to think in a bio-centric way. The present paper studies three novels of Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, Pather Panchali-Song of the Road, Aparajita-the Unvanquished and Aranyak-Of the Forest from the perspectives of ecocriticism. The paper explores the three specific perspectives like ecosophy, deep ecology and ecocide which are brought into focus by the self-realization of the protagonists. Ecocriticism in Bandyopadhyay's, therefore, develops an ecological literacy among the readers. The present study is an attempt to reconnect man's lost relationship with nature in order to promote green peace.

In the first phase of the movement the approach was rather shallow. But in the second wave, the attention shifts to the deep ecological understanding of nature having an intrinsic value of every natural phenomenon. The present study is an attempt to explore his select songs from Gitanjali and Gitabitan that celebrate an inevitable bond between man and nature. In nature which is considered to be the whole of the physical environment including the human and the non-human, one thing is connected to another. Deep ecology underlines this equal importance of all organisms in our environment. The selected songs of Tagore taken under critical surveillance, will examine the deep ecological perspectives focussed by the great poet of nature.

The book is an anthology of critical articles written by different contributors on popular literature translated into films. According to the editor, the new book is an attempt to rediscover global cinema based on the literary pieces which later turned to movies. In the preface, Dr. Sarangi writes, " World cinema is no more Hollywood centric. Rather it has moved beyond its geographical area. Bollywood and Hindi film industry are loved by the audience worldwide. The book speaks about the role of Literature and its contribution to cinema, a popular culture " (Sarangi, 2017). The cinematic representations of the popular novels revive the works and get critically acclaimed by the people who watch them. The movies are easier understood by the audience than the novels and stories. The scriptwriters get attracted to the popular literary pieces for the theme of the movies and the directors are prone to literary texts if they find any cinematic potentiality in literature. It is their professionalism too, which makes famous literary text become successful movies. The book is an attempt to rediscover some eternal texts translated into films.

Most of his novels have an autobiographical touch and it is his memory which is the key to his literary thought. The novelist has a personal experience of forest life which he put for a long time in the golden frame of memory. When the hurly burly of so-called civilized city life gets upon his heat oppressed brain, environmental imagination revives down his memory lane. The present paper seeks to analyze critically the role of memory used is creating a classic beauty Aranyak-of the Forest a memoir which is stuffed in recollection of the forest land of Labtulia and Nara Baihar where the novelist stayed for a period of time as an estate manager. Ecocriticism is a recent literary theory which is meant for scholarly appreciation of nature literature. Aranyak-of the Forest is the best example of ecocritical writing as it represents several ecological issues as well as human and nature relationship written in flashback technique. His personal feelings which he penned down in his diary, gets a universal appeal as he brings into light the eternal saga of human life living in close proximity with nature.

The present paper is an attempt to explore the borderless identity of the Bengalese that often suffers a crisis of identity due to the partition of Bengal. During the freedom of India, Bengal was divided into two parts, the east and the west which created a lot of commotion among the Bengalese. They mostly share the common foods, common dictum, common culture and common pull to their land. The language is a potent force which unites these people. The language itself can create a common culture to bind people together. But the state in the name of the border and religious hegemony often stands in the way of people of same language and land. Religious fanaticism is also enough to dishevel the harmony of people speaking the same language. Ecocriticism studies displacement which shatters place attachment of people and thereby creating disturbance in the social ecology of a land. In the light of the green cultural study, the present

The book, Perspective on Ecocritical Studies (2017) is an anthology of critical articles on the representation of environment and nature in some literary works. It explores a wide range of reading in Ecocritical perspectives. In this book, authors have successfully presented the different point of views with help of works in which environment and its parts have been represented whether negatively or positively. There are few chapters of the book very important to get a sense of ecocritical history, historical

The green criticism studies literature from nature's perspective. When environment is hot cake topic of the time, ecocriticism gains rapid popularity. The present study explores how study of nature evolves down the ages from Romanticism to Ecocriticism and how ecocriticism turns to be a modified version of Romanticism. There is a wide gap of almost two centuries between the movements. Yet there are some similarities that validate the claim that Ecocriticism is the reappraisal of romanticism in as broader sense. The rudiments of ecocriticism are found in the poetry of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Keats, Southey, Clare and many other poets of the romantic age. The paper is an attempt to explore the ecocritical praxis of the Romantic Literature in general.

Adaptation or translating literature into the screen is virtually as old as the film itself. But while transforming a literary work into a cinema, which is also a creative art, there involves a lot of things to surpass the success and popularity of the original literary work and vice-versa. According to William Walsh, " Literature can be read as the chronicle and embodiment of the state and the history of the language. " This opinion is more or less applicable to cinema also. Indeed, Cinema, serves the same purpose as literature, though in a different but faster way. Comparing literature with cinema is comparing " a giraffe with an apple. " Literature is no doubt, a better form of art in comparison with cinema. It can create among the readers an artistic sense unparallel to any art form. But it has also its limitations. First, it is not open to all kind of people. On the other hand, cinema is rather democratic and it liberates us while literature bounds us. Both of them tell us stories. But stories but stories do not matter most. It's the way in which a story is told that makes the difference. In a cinema, a director has to put together many things like music, dance, songs, etc. and converting so many images into one is a very difficult task. Therefore, cinema is a non-static form of art and it is a dynamic product of Industrial Revolution. Despite these apparent differences, there has been the successful adaptation of literature into films. Great literature is often translated into film owing to their widespread popularity. Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay's works are being translated for the said purpose since Oscar-winning director Mr. Satyajit Roy made him popular with his famous Apu trilogy (Pather Panchali,Aparajito & Apur Sansar) and The Distant Thunder. The recent development in this respect includes Alo(translated from Kinnardal) directed by Tarun Majumder and Chander Pahar (The Mountain of the Moon) directed by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee etc. All these prose narratives adapted into films may be ecocritically analyzed. Bibhutibhushan's forte is his portrayal of the man in the midst of nature. The present article seeks to peep deep into Chander Pahar to find out Ecocritical implications in the film based on the original adventure novel by the great nature novelist.

The extensive misuse of natural resources has left us at the brink of ditch. The rainforests are cut down, the fossil fuel is fast decreasing, the cycle of season is at disorder, ecological disaster is frequent now round the globe and our environment is at margin. Under these circumstances, there arose a new theory of reading nature writing during the last decade of the previous century called Ecocriticism. It is a worldwide emergent movement which came into existence as a reaction to man's anthropocentric attitude of dominating nature. The present paper seeks to explore the ecocritical perspectives as envisaged in some select world literature as well as Indian writing in English. This environmentally oriented study of literature brings about an ecological literacy among the readers who in the process become ecoconscious, thereby taking good care of Mother Nature. Environmental concern being one of the major concerns of the day, Ecocriticism has undergone rapid development during its short tenure since introduction. It is interpretive tool of analyzing nature writing which is commonly

The severe cyclonic storms like Mora, Aila, Hudhud and Laila, the frequent earthquake worldwide, the devastating Tsunami of Chennai, the flash flood of Uttarakhand, the landslide of Kalimgpong, the great flood of Kashmir – all these have left a terrible impact on man. So ecocriticism which studies, literature through the green lens is a very relevant theory that tends to explore the relationship between literature and the physical environment. But this is not merely the study of nature as represented in literature. It examines the wider significance of nature from " environmentalist praxis. " (Buell) If " ecocriticism " is environmental activism, the present paper seeks to study Jean Giono " s The Man Who Planted Trees from an earth-centric approach. In a tale of only about 4000 words the story teller here shows the desperate effort of a man who indulges in tree plantation in a desert land to bring back life into it. The long prose narrative beautifully depicts how an individual attempt may bring about an effective change in an environment that was turned to desert.

To some, it is art for art's sake and to others; it is the mirror of contemporary society. Great literature is always built upon these two concepts. Down the ages critics have analyzed several contemporary issues of literary values like Classicism, Neoclassicism, Romanticism, Marxism, Modernism, Postmodernism, Deconstruction, Post-colonialism, and Feminism and so on. But literary studies for a long time did not pay any attention to a serious issue, which is the environmental concern as represented in literature. The world has suffered a lot from global ecological crisis mostly due to human atrocities on nature. So literature cannot turn its face away from this. Towards the end of the previous century, a new area of studying literature came into existence. It is a scholarly approach to studying nature writing which is popularly known as ecocriticism. This environmentally oriented study of literature is also known as Environmental Literary Criticism, Green Studies etc. The present article seeks to explore the several Ecocritical issues as represented in the great nature novel, Aranyak (Of the Forest) by one of the major Bengali novelists named Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay whose works have often been translated into English. The present work will try to investigate how this long prose narrative can lead to the self-realization of a city dweller about his sin of deforestation although he had not any love for forest life in the beginning of the novel. As the novel progresses, we see a gradual change in his attitude to nature. His initial 'ego-consciousness' yields place to his 'eco-consciousness' at the end. Human nature interconnection which is the very basis of Ecocriticism is paramount in the novel.

This revisionist movement criticizes the anthropocentric attitude of the humans which is a hindrance to a sustainable future. Today even in the twenty-first century when we witness a rapid growth of science and technology, the marginalized people are still being deprived of their equal rights to survive. They are yet to have a taste of true development even in the developed or developing countries. They are more ecological when the so called civilized people have put our ecology at stake. They are dedicated to their roots, yet they are being exploited by the capitalistic society. They even fall an easy prey to the state sponsored terrorism. Ecocriticism advocates development of every individual in close proximity with nature. The present paper seeks to explore the cultural clash between the civilized and the disadvantaged regarding their attitude to nature as evidenced in

Children's literature plays an important role in the mental and cognitive development of the young ones who are the future citizens of this earth. Many writers have left their mark, making children aware of environmental protection in the most formative period of their life. The present study makes an attempt to study Amit Garg's two selected tales for children named Rosa Goes to the City and The Greatest Treasure that are replete with ecological wisdom. If children can learn the importance of ecology and environmental threat, they will take better care for nature, thereby making attempts to restore the ecological balance in an age of environmental degradation.
