Dine-in cinema favorite Alamo Drafthouse is expanding to East Dallas. The Advocate first-reports that the theater complex will take over the former Tom Thumb space in Lake Highlands. Today, The Dallas Morning News followed up with the full scoop on the 46,000-square-foot development which will feature nine screens and 875 "luxury recliner" seats, with a 175-seat Vetted Well bar and restaurant and a year round patio. The project is expected to be completed in time for a spring 2017 debut. Company CFO Bill DiGaetano tells the paper:

We're very excited to announce this theater — and how quickly we can get it open due to it being an older space. One of our favorite things is to take an older center and make it great again, which is what we'll be able to do for the community.

The old shopping is also expected to receive additional updates including renovated office spaces and space for two 5,000-square-food eateries on either side of the Alamo.

This isn’t the only Alamo theater in the area. The company currently operates locations in Richardson and The Cedars. A third location is slated to open in Las Colinas.
