Lake Sammamish: Restoring Culture and Life Back to an Urban Landscape

The Snoqualmie Tribe lives by the teachings passed down from our ancestors. Rather than forcing the land to become something it is not, we live with the land. This story map shows one of the many ways we are continuing stewardship of the land in our traditional territory at Lake Sammamish. We focus on the connection of culture and kokanee, a landlocked sockeye salmon. This story map that we have created is the consolidation of the work of many staff over the last many years. This story map is a winner of the Tribal Story Map Challenge, a friendly competition between all federally recognized tribes in the nation. This product has been shared with our partners and is being woven into grade school and college curriculums alike, furthering the stewardship message of the Tribe’s as well as reconnecting culture and place.
