Tip: Categorizing images
[edit]
Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.
Here's how:
1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:
2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".
When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").
Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:49, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Replacing pronunciation files
[edit]If you want to change the name of files, you should request it to be moved. Uploading other users' contributions and calling them your own work, as you did with File:Voiced_uvular_stop.ogg is definitely not okay. That way you're creating unnecessary duplicates and, inadvertently or not, taking credit for something you haven't actually created.
It's also a unclear why you've chosen to replace a lot of my pronunciation files with your own recordings. The pronunciation has been perfectly correct and more or less identical to your own, but my articulation has generally been clearer, with less background noise and with a consistent use of the vowel [a] rather than the [æ] you often seem to use.
Peter Isotalo 22:02, 29 November 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't had any intention to take credit for something I didn't make and about that you are absolutely right and what I have done was wrong. Your palatal fricative pronunciations were better too. Also can you replace the current uvular examples to the old examples? (Voiced_uvular_stop.ogg to Voiced_uvular_plosive.ogg) and delete both File:Voiced_uvular_stop.ogg and File:Voiceless_uvular_stop.ogg?
- By the way I have to say that your example for File:Voiced alveolar affricate.ogg is wrong. That one is not a affricate, it's [dz] and not [d͡z] (First Voiced alveolar stop and then Voiced alveolar fricative). It's like ds in heads.--Adamsa123 (talk) 21:26, 8 December 2012 (UTC)
- Replying a bit late here, but here goes...
- Concerning affricates, isn't it just that I'm pronouncing them slower than you? Because as far as I understand, the analysis of [dz] in "heads" is merely a matter of phonology. Or am I wrong here?

File tagging File:Qab.png
[edit]This media was probably deleted.
|
Thanks for uploading File:Qab.png. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT ([email protected]). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.
Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own). The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Qab.png ) and the above demanded information in your request. |

Questions for English translation of Adyghe words from unknown dialects
[edit]Hallo Adamsa123, we are completing the German article de:Adygeische Sprache. You made very nice audios (ogg) with all the Adyghe phonemes and example words, we've translated into good German expressions. But know we have problems about translations of example-words existing according to the Russian article only in Adyghe dialects. Could you translate it here for us, also explaining from which dialect those words came (I know the names of the dialects) and furthermore adding in which dialect the phonemes are usual? I'm sorry for that longer question. To make your answers easier, I will write a overview here, you can add the answers inside. Thank you for your answers. Yours sincerely.--WajWohu (talk) 11:39, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you very much for your help. I've fixed it here de:Adygeische Sprache#Dialektkonsonanten.
- There were some mistakes in ru:Адыгейский язык#Диалектные буквы, they've added the same ogg-File for Кь кь and КӀь кӀь, but it is the right ogg-File for Кь кь, I think. There is no ogg-File speaking КӀь кӀь, as far I can see, so I kept the place empty. I've added the ogg-File for Ӏь, and for ЩӀ щӀ, but latter is your ogg-File "CircassianЩӀ", speaking only the phoneme (the note "nPh" means in German "nur Phonem"=only phoneme spoken). Your ogg-Files for Кь кь, СӀ сӀ and Ӏь are not pronouncing the same example-words as I've copied from the Russian article and you translated to me here. As far I can understand, only even the first spoken words after the phoneme itself are identical to the first written example-word, the followings are other words. I've fixed there notes "aW" meaning in German "andere Wörter"="other words". Thank you for your help.--WajWohu (talk) 10:59, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
