Cymraeg: Mae Tywyn yn dref ar lan Bae Ceredigion yn yr hen Sir Feirionnydd, de Gwynedd. Gelwir y dref weithiau wrth yr enw Tywyn Meirionnydd, rhag drysu rhwng lleoedd gwahanol ag enwau tebyg, yn arbennig y pentref o'r un enw yn sir Conwy (gw. uchod). Yn y cyfnod Fictorianaidd ac ar ddechrau'r ugeinfed ganrif defnyddid enw arall gan rai, sef Towyn-on-Sea. Yn Gymraeg, yr ynganiad arferol yw yn gyffredin. Ystyr y gair tywyn yw 'traeth, glân môr, twyn twyod', ac mae twyni tywod eang i'w cael i'r de o'r dref i gyfeiriad Aberdyfi. Yn Nhywyn ei hun y mae'r traeth a'r promenâd yn para'n atyniadau poblogaidd. I'r gogledd y mae aber Afon Dysynni, ac i'r gogledd-ddwyrain y mae tir amaethyddol bras Dyffryn Dysynni. I'r dwyrain ceir bryniau Craig y Barcud a Chraig Fach-goch. Cofnododd Cyfrifiad y Deyrnas Unedig 2001 fod 40.5% o boblogaeth Tywyn yn gallu'r Gymraeg.
