English: Tensegrity is a portmanteau of tensional integrity. It refers to the integrity of structures as being based in a synergy between balanced tension and compression components.
Español: La tensegridad se define como la característica que exhiben determinadas estructuras, cuya estabilidad depende del equilibrio entre fuerzas de tensión y compresión.
Deutsch: Tensegrity ist ein englisches Kofferwort aus tension, also Spannung und integrity, Ganzheit, Zusammenhalt. Es bezeichnet die Richard Buckminster Fuller und Kenneth Snelson zugeschriebene Erfindung eines Tragwerkssystems (eigentlich die Eigenschaft derselben), in dem sich Strukturen durch Druck und Spannung selbst stabilisieren.
Français : La tenségrité caractérise la faculté d'une structure à se stabiliser par le jeu des forces de tension et de compression qui s'y répartissent et s'y équilibrent.

Nederlands: Tensegrity is een samentrekking van tension en structural integrity. Het verwijst naar de integriteit van structuren gebaseerd op een evenwicht tussen trek- en drukbelastingen. De trekkrachten worden opgevangen in flexibele staalkabels. De drukkrachten worden opgevangen in staven van staal, aluminium of hout.
