The Massachusetts State College was the second name given to the University of Massachusetts. The institution was changed from the Massachusetts Agricultural College to Massachusetts State during president Roscoe W. Thatcher's tenure in 1931.[1] Though this period only lasted two decades and with it two presidents, the college underwent many important changes during this time.
