Français : Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc, né le 27 janvier 1814 à Paris et mort le 17 septembre 1879 à Lausanne — est un architecte français, connu auprès du grand public pour ses restaurations de constructions médiévales.
- On lui doit aussi d'avoir posé les bases de l'architecture moderne, par ses écrits théoriques marqués par le rationalisme (Entretiens sur l'architecture, 1863), et d'avoir directement inspiré plusieurs acteurs majeurs du mouvement Art nouveau : Eugène Grasset, Hector Guimard, Victor Horta, Antoni Gaudí, Hendrik Petrus Berlage, etc.

- He is famous for his "restorations" of medieval buildings, and his refined architectural drawings, especially of Gothic architectural elements.
- Born in Paris, he was as central a figure in the Gothic Revival style in France, and in public discourse on "honesty" in architecture, which eventually transcended all Revival styles to inform the emerging spirit of Modernism.
