The denomination 447 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years. At that time it was still based on the Julian calendar, modified by Emperor Augustus. With the modern proleptic Gregorian calendar, this Julian year could be in advance by a few days (since the Concile of Nice) or late by a few days (in years before that Concile), or by a unreliable number of days in some years after the adoption of the Julian calendar (depending on locations where local rulers applied inconsistantly it for leap years, notably at the very begining of the Christian era). Year 447 is when the Julian calendar was finally normalized and synchronized throughout the Roman Empire, with strict rules for computing leap years.
To synchronize these calendars, the most reliable methods are based on datations of events referencing the weekday name (notably for weekly religious events, such as Shabbat, or events followed by religious or sources, such as the observation of lunar or solar eclipses, or proceedings of trials and laws, letters from embassadors), because the cycle of 7-day weeks has been extremely stable and was already used in the pre-Christian era since the end of the Roman Republic (and inherited from the Hebraic calendar since much longer time).
For practical purpose however, items that need to be categorized on this wiki don't necessarily have an exact datation up to the day: if only a year is determined (e.g. dates of birth, or dates of creation for archeologic items and artworks, are frequently estimated within a year only), using the Julian or Gregorian calendar makes no real difference as they are still in the error margin for their datation.
