With just one week left before the presidential elections, several prominent Latino celebrities have publicly expressed their support for Vice President Kamala Harris. As the polls remain tight, the endorsement of these celebrities is crucial for Harris, who has seen Donald Trump gaining popularity among Latinos throughout the campaign.

Five Latino celebrities who have publicly endorsed Kamala Harris

Marc Anthony (singer)

Puerto Rican salsa superstar Marc Anthony, whose real name is Marco Antonio Muñiz Rivera, has been one of the most vocal Latino celebrities in support of Kamala Harris.

In a public video titled “Recuerdo” (“I Remember”), Anthony endorsed the Harris-Walz candidacy, calling on Puerto Ricans and Latinos to vote Democrat. “I remember what it was like when Trump was president. I remember what he did and what he said about Puerto Rico, about our people,” he said.

He criticized the Trump administration’s response to Hurricane Maria in 2017, calling attention to its devastating impact. He also cited Trump’s record of discrimination toward Latinos and the administration’s handling of the immigration crisis.

Cardi B (rapper)

Rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almanza Cephus, known as Cardi B, was one of the first Latino artists to endorse Kamala Harris.

She criticized Joe Biden’s presidential run, saying Harris should have been the Democratic Party’s first choice. “I feel like it was very selfish of Biden […] to continue to run for president. They should’ve passed the torch to Kamala. This was the perfect moment for her.”

After Biden dropped out of the race, and amid criticism directed at Harris, Cardi B added, “The way that y’all disrespect her makes me like her.”

Bad Bunny (singer)

The reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, expressed his support for Kamala Harris a few days ago through social media. Following a controversial joke made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage” at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally last Sunday October 27, Bad Bunny shared a video of Harris.

In the video, Harris sharply criticized the Trump administration’s handling of Hurricane Maria’s aftermath in 2017, saying that Trump “abandoned the island.”

In public, Bad Bunny has typically remained apolitical, reiterating that artists should not get involved in politics. He was particularly critical of fellow reggaetoneros Justin Quiles and Anuel AA for publicly endorsing Trump at a Pennsylvania rally a few months ago.

However, in a YouTube interview with Puerto Rican channel El Tony last month, Bad Bunny encouraged Puerto Ricans to vote. Without naming any specific candidate, he stated, “It’s good to go out on the streets to protest, to let ourselves be heard as a people, but I think the biggest act of protest is to vote against those who have led us to this mess, on November 5.” Recent events would seem to clarify who he believes “led Puerto Rico to this mess.”

Jennifer Lopez (singer)

Jennifer Lopez publicly endorsed Kamala Harris during Oprah Winfrey’s “Unite for America” rally in Michigan on September 19. Appearing online via Zoom, Jennifer Lopez expressed her support for candidate Harris, though she did not make a public statement.

Similar to Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez also reposted Kamala Harris’s public message following Hinchcliffe’s controversial remarks at the Trump rally.

The superstar, known as J.Lo, has a long history of supporting Democratic candidates. As a Puerto Rican, she has consistently backed Democratic candidates since Barack Obama’s candidacy in 2008. During Joe Biden’s inauguration in January 2021, she even performed “This Land is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful.

Ricky Martin (singer)

The pop star Ricky Martin, whose real name is Enrique Martin Morales, is also a long-time supporter of the Democratic Party. After endorsing Joe Biden in 2020, Ricky Martin has now endorsed Kamala Harris.

Ricky Martin urged his followers on Instagram to vote for Harris, in response to the Hinchcliffe incident at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally. “This is what they think of us. Vote for Kamala Harris,” he wrote.

Although he supported George W. Bush’s candidacy in 2001, Ricky Martin switched sides after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He notably endorsed Barack Obama for his commitment to LGBTQ rights, especially his support for same-sex marriage.
