Statue of Sofia Vergara to Be Erected in Colombian City

Colombia will honor actress and television producer Sofia Vergara with a statue at the “Malecon del Rio” in Barranquilla. The announcement was made by the mayor Alejandro Char, during the inauguration of a new recreational area called the “Sector Nativo”.

Mayor Char made the announcement during the opening ceremony of the 20,000-square-meter rarea located between Calle 72 and the Shakira statue in the ‘Malecon’, a popular linear park along the Magdalena River.

In his speech, Char highlighted the importance of recognizing Vergara for her distinguished career and her contribution to the international reputation of Barranquilla. “Sofia Vergara is a champion. She is a woman who has raised the name of ‘Barranquilleros’ high, she is an authentic, great professional, and we believe the Malecon is the perfect place to honor her,” he stated.

Colombia honors Sofia Vergara’s successful career

The 51-year-old actress has received numerous accolades, including four Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, four Golden Globe nominations, and four Emmy nominations. In 2015, she received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and in 2020, she was named the highest-paid actress on American television.

Vergara is globally recognized for her role in the American series ‘Modern Family’ and her most recent role in the Netflix series “Griselda.” Additionally, she has a long career as a businesswoman, with her own clothing line, fragrances, and home furniture.

The statue of Sofia Vergara will be created by Yino Marquez, a master in Plastic Arts. Marquez also created the Shakira statue and other notable works such as the statues of Joe Arroyo, Julio Comesaña, Esthercita Forero, and Alberto Pumarejo, as well as the iconic sculpture ‘Los Enamorados’ in Parque Los Locutores. The Vergara statue is expected to be unveiled by the end of this year
