It has been ages since I wrote on the blog. It is not because I don’t want to – I simply just have so much to do, and that my friends is a good thing!
The last year has been both very quiet and very busy. care by me did not participate on any fairs, and we did not do a lot of events, as we did not have our whole production in place after the earthquake in Kathmandu last year. But dispute of that we actually got some really nice new customers, and the ones we already had are still here – i’m very grateful for that!
Now 1,5 years after the earthquake we are up and running, and i’m so so proud of our newest collection. The quality is just perfect, and the styles has developed. The brand photos has become even stronger in the expression and I hope you agree that we have a nice balance between the pure Nordic style and luxury elements.
care by me is now present in some really nice and tasteful shops in Scandinavia, UK, Germany, Switzerland and France – I really hope to expand to more great shops within the next year – it is not the size of the shop but the quality of it, and today we have gotten some world class customers!

A cashmere winter – sustainable luxury
Ohhh my – times is moving too fast – I can’t believe it has been so long since I last posted!
Well heres an update: Our small sustainable brand are doing fine 🙂 We are now presented in more than 20 shops in Denmark, and it is time to start selling our unique products in the rest of Scandinavia and Germany …and perhaps Canada and United States if luck is on our side 🙂
During the past months we have faced a lot of challenges: It is very expensive to drive this business, and even with 20 shops we do not make a profit – so from 1.st of January i will be the only full time employee again and I will try to work with agents and freelancers to meet this challenges. Off cause Amalie will stay as a student worker! In Nepal we face a lot of competition on cashmere products – and theres a lot of cheating with qualities from the yarn suppliers – so we need certificates on all raw material, and this takes time and focus from other activities. Last but not least the Danish government has changed the aid to developing countries – so Danida projects (as we have been approved as) is stopped, and none know when they will start again – this is a huge risk to our further work in Nepal.
On the bright side we have more and more great customers both private and shops – the work we have been doing in Kathmandu for the past years is working, and the products we sell are in perfect shape – both regarding design, quality and finishing – this is great news!

” How does care by me work with sustainability?
At care by me we base our sustainability work on the principles of the UN Global Compact. Being a young company we do not fulfil all criteria yet, but one day we will!
Our most important focus area is on the social side of sustainability. We wish to improve the lives of women in the developing world, and we do this by creating jobs. We run a development project in Kathmandu, which is supported by Danida (the development organisation under the Danish Foreign Ministry, red.). This project supports women, and it also extends to the establishment of a wastewater treatment plant and to substituting all conventional colour methods for eco-friendly ones.”
Tea and cashmere
The wind is blowing outside, and we enjoy our life’s in the office with tea and cashmere sweaters …
…NO… we do not actually We are in fact in the process of handing over new goods to the stores. Amalie is picking up our new products from the Photographer who made pack shots, so we can upload new pictures and products on the web shop – hopefully this week.
I try to write a great email with Christmas inspiration to the press, and a autumn newsletter to you. At the same time we need to have everything ready for the Design Trade fair, which starts on Sunday – and we are actually missing a lot! Hanne is out visiting customers and write remembering notes, so we do not forget anything on the fly. BUT we are doing well and it is a pleasure to see the result of several months of hard work, the collection has been really good, and it’s hard not to be completely happy when you see our new pictures – I hope you like them!

We make slow-wear
Copenhagen fashion week is on the GO, and personally I love it – BUT in response to why care by me do not attend fashion fairs – and only furniture and interior fairs, I can tell:
Our focus is to make delicious products for women and their homes. We call our clothes collection: slow-wear because it’s not fashion or fast-fashion, we want products from care by me to last for many years, be produced under proper conditions both for people and the environment, and therefore we do minimalist design in the most amazing materials available – and we hope you keep your purchase forever ❤

Copenhagen Fashion Summit
April 24 we went to Copenhagen Fashion Summit a conference where people from around the world gather to hear about, inspire, and share knowledge about sustainability in fashion and textile industry.
There were experts from around the world to share knowledge and share their own case stories – very specific in terms of what their priorities were and how they had worked with them.
It is clearly a contrast when we say sustainable fashion. Many people perceive fashion, as something rapidly changing and mass consuming. In contrast, sustainability is seen as long-term and focused on saving resources. So one of the great dilemmas especially for High street shops is, of course, how to get a business model that can reconcile the two concepts. And if the business can see the possibilities inherent in improving both human and environmental bottom line.
For some small businesses and for some luxury brands there are actually several common denominators between what we perceive to be sustainable and we associate with luxury: The products usually have a unique story, they are made with fine craftsmanship, made of good materials and has a long life. So it makes sense that a company of Bottega Veneta uses a lot of resources on sustainable development. And it is amazing to see the great financial, economic and human achievements they have created. We had a really good day and we went home with a great deal of inspiration and faith in what we’re doing is super relevant and contemporary ☺
I have made 2 simple advises for a more sustainable and conscious consumption.
Buy little but good.
Most of us – including me – know about impulse purchases – and sometimes this might be ok. But way too often these purchases end up at the bottom of the wardrobe. Then it is a waste of resources. If we all thought twice about all the resources used in the production of example a t-shirt we might be willing to spend a little more money on a good quality for longer product life and a better usage of our common resources.
Less laundry
If you wash your clothes less and do not use tumble dryer you save the environment a lot of resources. You save yourself money at the same time, because your clothes will last longer, and your electricity bill becomes smaller 😉

your very own cashmere-heaven
Amalie just wrote this text to our cashmere throws – and to be honest I agree – and i LOVE it.
It has been a while, we have simply have had so much to do, and it takes a while for me to write in english (hopefully one day we will get a translated – and until then I hope you will forgive me if I spell the words wrong sometimes…)As you might remember we started to sell to shops in January, and so far we are in 16 shops in Denmark by now. I’m very happy and very proud! We are 3 people in the Danish office – so we have lots to do witch is just great – it’s better to be busy than bored.
