Caillou's Teddy Shirt (French Title: Le T-Shirt Préféré De Caillou) is an episode in Season 1. This episode was aired on October 9, 1997 and on September 25, 2000 (PBS Kids).
One afternoon while playing with his toy cars, Caillou is horrified to see that Rosie is wearing his favorite shirt: a green T-shirt with three teddy bears printed on the front. He sees this, cries, and throws a fuss. Then he calls out for their mother and says Rosie is wearing his teddy-bear shirt. Doris tries to explain to Caillou that the teddy bear shirt was too small. And that is why she gave it to Rosie. But Caillou angrily declares the shirt is still his. Left with no choice, Doris takes the shirt off of Rosie and gives Rosie her mouse shirt.
Rosie gets her mouse shirt. And Caillou gets his teddy shirt back. In the living room, Doris and Rosie watch in horror. And Caillou (who gets his shirt back) struggles to put on the shirt. When he finally puts it on, the shirt does not fit well and exposes Caillou's bare belly. Rosie (wearing the mouse shirt) is quick to notice this and begins to tickle the exposed area, much to Caillou's annoyance.
Later, while Caillou is playing with his toy cars again, his tummy is itchy from lying on the living room carpet. Realizing the shirt no longer fits him, Caillou tries to put scotch tape the shirt to his shorts, but the scotch tape falls off immediately after he attaches it. Heartbroken, Caillou goes to his bedroom, accepting the fact that he has outgrown the shirt. After seeing how upset her son is, Doris visits him in his bedroom with a photo album showing a younger Caillou wearing the shirt. She apologizes for giving the shirt to Rosie without asking Caillou, since he used to like it so much, and suggests that he keep the shirt in a special place. Caillou decides to put the shirt on his teddy bear, and Doris and Rosie watch happily as Caillou hugs the bear.
Trivia[]
After Caillou gives Teddy the teddy shirt, Teddy is never seen wearing it again, likely due to Rosie getting it back.
This episode has the most negative reviews due to Caillou throwing a tantrum over a shirt.
Additionally, the first screaming/crying sound effect used is in the episode "Caillou Joins the Circus", making the reviews justifiable.
When Caillou first rolls a toy car down the ramp, his "Vroom, vroom, vroom!" is recycled from "Caillou Joins the Circus", although in this case he is genuinely playing with the car instead of sarcastically.
Rosie seems perfectly fine with Caillou giving his shirt to Teddy.
Boris is absent in this episode. This means Doris is the oldest one in this episode.
Although, Boris can be seen pictured on Doris' photo album.
Fourth Wall Break: Caillou looks at the audience before he begins to drop the car that he was playing with and starts crying.
The Title Card, only on Cartoonito prints
On Cartoonito prints of Series 2, this episode was featured to replace "Caillou's Cross Word", due to its usage of the word "Stupid". Because of this, it had its own title card and the framing device was cut out entirely.
This episode was remade in Caillou's new show, "Caillou's New Adventures", just like the first episodes of the show.
Goofs[]
Toward the end of the episode when Caillou is on the bed, he is wearing the smaller version of his normal gray shirt, but when Mommy shows him the picture of his teddy shirt, the scene switches back to Caillou wearing his teddy shirt.
When Caillou is about to cry from seeing Rosie wearing his teddy shirt, his head appears to jitter twice.
