If you grab one of the few seats at this cozy Salem hot dog joint, you can pay after you finish eating. Dogs come steamed or grilled, served on a grilled, buttered roll, with a wide variety of toppings. Most selections are under $4. There are also several varieties of veggie dogs available.

Formaggio Kitchen's seasonal sidewalk barbecue runs every Saturday, starting at 11 a.m., from late March through October. There are two hot dog options, both 100% beef — a Niman Ranch quarter-pounder served on brioche ($5) and a Pearl half-pounder served in a hollowed-out Iggy's baguette ($9).
